Of course there is a way, but is it wise? I'd rather pay a proven, playoff, vet, who can shoot, dribble, pass, and who might be undervalued in Monte Morris. I'm tired of these damn kids to be honest. Add solid, good vets (but not old), and add reliable depth to this 41 win team.
Ive seen plenty of highlights of him putting the ball on the floor and getting by his opponent. I think Sarr would be the best fit with the current roster. Risacher would have to either sit his first yr or they would have to make room at the SF spot.
Risacher seems effective handling the ball in transition and getting to the rim. I have not seen a lot of him creating for anyone off the dribble.
Why? He'd never play if he's a 3. You have Brooks the team is stuck with then Tari. On top of that Cam sometimes plays there and so does Amen.
Brooks is not here long term. Cam is a 2/3. I hope (as well as you, I suspect) that Cam take minutes from JG4 ... since he is a better shooter ... as a shooting guard. Amen can not get starter minutes at the 3 (or the 1 ftm), since he ... can ... not ... shoot. Tari is not a long term starter; he is a bench 3/4. If the Rockets drafted Risacher, 1: FVV, ****-if-I-know, Amen 2: JG4, Cam 3: Brooks, Risacher, Cam, Amen, Tari 4: Jabari, Tari, Risacher, JG32 5: Sengun, Adams, Landale Long term: 1: ****-if-I-know, Amen 2: Cam, JG4 3: Risacher, Tari, Amen 4: Jabari, Tari, Risacher, JG32 5: Sengun, Jabari If Amen becomes a league average shooter, he will be a starter ... at the 1?
Amen Thompson doesn't even need to be a league average outside shooter to be the starter at the 1, he will be a star if he does that.
My only strong opinion is that I have no confidence in Sengun playing half his minutes at PF in order to make way for Clingan playing 30mpg. And if you don't think Clingan should eventually be a 30+mpg player, then picking him 3rd is ludicrous. Unless the Rockets think Clingan will develop into Brook Lopez in 2-3 years, this is as a big a risk as the team can make. I would not dislike the Rockets taking any other top prospects associated with them.
Can you see a below average shooting Amen being the starting PG on a team that can make a deep playoff run? A lot of the p-n-r actions happened behind the 3 point line. If Amen's man on defense is sitting back in the paint, ...
Basically the archetype for this kind of player is prime Westbrook. The Heat version of Butler is also someone with success at the highest level without a good jumper. You can make it work if you do enough of everything else. Not saying Amen will be those guys but he has the athleticism and skills to make it work.
Yeah, I could see any of Risacher, Clingan, and Sheppard fitting in well with the team. Sarr, too, but he is the least likely to drop to the Rockets. Having Clingan play behind Adams and then take over the role is pretty intriguing. The defense could be elite. But adding Risacher or Topic would probably lead to a logjam in the SF position. There's just not enough PT for the new guy behind Brooks, Eason, Thompson, etc.
Risacher's skillset is the same as Sheppard but he isn't 6'1.75. It's a waste because: 1. A top 3 pick is rare, free agents are always available. 2. Rockets don't have a glaring need other than better players. A shooter will have to outplay the core 6+FVV and Dillon Brooks so just shooting isn't enough to address the "need". What falls apart is the Sheppard Delusion, especially when Risacher is now shooting 56% from 3 in the Euroleague playoffs.
There's also no time at pg behind Amen and FVV and backup Pg JG (who becomes the Pg when FVV sits down). It's a false argument.
Don't look now but Risacher is shooting 56% from 3 in the Euroleague playoffs thru 17 games: https://www.basketball-reference.com/international/players/zaccharie-risacher-1.html Pretty clear who should be the pick at 3.
Not sure what argument you're referring to, but I guess you're talking about Sheppard? If Sheppard were picked, I'm assuming he'd be in line to play PG and the idea of Thompson becoming PG could be shelved. Though they could probably find some time playing a Sheppard/Thompson backcourt.
