I would always root for any young player to have success, even if not with the Astros. I will not be rooting for him when he is on a different team

I wonder in what capacity/ how good Luis Garcia will be when he comes back, feel like he’s been totally forgotten but would be amazing if he could replace Brown or Spencer

May not be this year due to recovery… but the expectations is that he can be a true ace.

The Astros pitching staff thinks Garcia’s stuff would be a great fit for the bullpen. Garcia might end up in the bullpen this year due to need.

There’s no real need in the bullpen compared to multiple starters with a 8 era. He’s got to be a starter.

A healthy rotation has Framber, JV, Blanco, Javier, and Urquidy. We’ll see how effective Urquidy is next month but there’s no guarantee that Garcia will be better utilized in the rotation coming off TJ. He could be a lights out RP this season then stretch back out next spring.

Not to mention by the time Garcia is ready for rehab stint/ ramp up McCullers COULD be only a couple of weeks behind him.

If Framber, JV, Javier, Blanco, and Urquidy are all doing well and Lance appears healthy and able to join the rotation by mid August, the team may elect to make Garcia a leverage reliever.

Luis could join the team a couple weeks earlier.

Conspiracy theory: this could also lead to reducing Pressly's workload to the point that he misses his needed games for his option to vest.

I really think Pressly is trade bait come the trade deadline. Hader is clearly the closer and we have too many pitchers coming back that could feel the 7th inning role (Garcia, McCullers, Urquidy) and Pressly could help replenish the minors.

I think a week ago The Athletic suggested that the Orioles would/should take a look at Pressly along with other potential closers.

They seem to WS t to go 6 though, really badly. So even if Urquidy is good (which I wouldn’t necessarily bet on) they still need Garcia starting unless SA or Brown get a shotload better. I’m also of the opinion that the bullpen will be just fine and doesn’t really need any reinforcements
