This underachieving bunch of ****s are on pace to lose about 100 games this year. Don't love our bullpen against the Yankee bats. Don't trust our manager or our situational hitting. Not feeling great about Bregman. Or Hader. Or most of our starters. But at least we have Jose Altuve! SWEEP!
As a general rule I can't watch Astros Vs. Yankees because You Tube TV cancelled the MSG Network and MLB Extra innings blacks me out. But this week looks to have other options with Prime and TBS and MLB Network. So, my mini "Sanity Sabbatical" planned for the next three days will have to go on hold. Guess I better grab some edibles and Titos on my way home from work to cope with this series.
Comeback gotta start somewhere and time to show some pride vs the team that embarrassed them to start this mess. Astros sweep. Lefties- Alvarez, Tucker, Singleton, Loperfido- each hit at least 1 HR Alvarez breaks out Bregman has a solid series to build on w/ 3 extra base hits. Altuve gets at least 6 hits Verlander gets win #259 Arrighetti gets win #1 Big 3 give up no more than 1 total run Clutchfans posters start a "most likely W.S. foe" thread
Man...really don't know about this one. I could see them getting smoked...those big bats of the Yankees and little league ball park.... The last few years it's been fun being their daddy....but that opening series....sheesh. And the Yordan, Breggy....and others slump.
Hate to say this, but we gonna get swept. I'm hoping heads roll after this series starting with Espada and co.
As I heard on a recent podcast ( maybe Stone Cold Astros?) The 2019 Nationals were 19-31 and 10 games out after 50 games and in a division w/ 3 other 500 or better teams. They also had fewer WC spots and those were 1 and done. They also had a far inferior team to the 2024 Astros IMO. I do not see anyone getting fired unless it gets worse than that.
The Astros have the Rotation in the Series to win the series, unfortunately Mentally they are scared to Fail. Juan Soto alone will destroy the Astros, Jose Altuve maybe hits a home run in a Yankee blowout. Yordan Alvarez, Kyle Tucker, Alex Bregman, Bryan Abreu, Ryan Pressly, Josh Hader need to perform. The struggle is ridiculous.
2B Jose Altuve SS Jeremy Pena DH Yordan Alvarez C Yainer Diaz LF Kyle Tucker 3B Alex Bregman 1B Jon Singleton LF Joey Loperfido CF Mauricio Dubon
Bats need to wake the **** up. Tired of losing games 3-2 when the pitching has been so inconsistent. Astros Hot or Not (xwOBA through May as of this morning): Batters: Cabbage .701 Meyers .373 (if he doesn't start every game this series I swear to God...) Tucker .364 Peña .353 Bregman .328 Loperfido .313 Singleton .306 Altuve .268 Alvarez .266 (seriously beginning to worry there is an injury here) Diaz .250 (regressed after promising start - prob needs a break) Caratini .235 (bat made out of pyrite) Dubón .230 Pitchers: Pressly .177 (not what you expected huh? well, assume makes an 'ass' out of 'u' and 'me') Arrighetti .233 (Stuff+ grades Arrighetti's fastball like something you would expect from a walk on at a DII program) Scott. 263 Verlander .275 (very promising start - stuff may have returned somewhat) Bielak, .275 Blanco, .300 Dubin .331 Brown .347 Hader .351 Abreu, .373 Martinez .396 (possible overuse?) Montero .433 (don't be fooled by this bum) Valdez .474
Jim Crane has never had to deal with regular season underachievement. Certainly not to this degree. So we don't really know how he might respond to adversity. But if the Astros get swept in New York - and it's a non-competitive sweep... I think Espada could be in some trouble. It's going to be interesting to find out what kind of owner Crane is when the team isn't rolling to 90+ wins. (And, holy **** - can you imagine the shitstorm if they fire Espada and bring back...... Dusty Baker...)
If he has the slightest slump, he gets benched. If he has a bad slump, may forget he's on the 26-man roster. When he's red hot on fire, he gets benched.
1 of 2 things will happen: We come out and sweep them and get all excited heading into the Tigers series. Then we’ll get swept by the Tigers and we’ll be back in depression mode. Or We get swept by the Yankees and this will fast track some major changes. Book it.
This is the season right here. I am fully expecting us to get swept and nothing changed. Keep trying to be hopeful, but they are looking for blood and to end our dynasty.
