it’s funny to me how Paul George is the same age as Harden, and could possibly get a max contract this offseason while it’s out of the question for Harden Paul George is still viewed by many as a max caliber player, yet Harden who everyone says is washed and on a heavy decline is still better than him…and it was quite apparent this year Paul George somehow still makes All-Star games while Harden will never make another one
This is kind of my issue with the Max Player question. Donovan Mitchell will want one. . but I would not give him one PG13 nor Harden would get one from me. Anyone over 32 would give me great concern unless I am already a 2nd round or up team If I am 1st round fodder I would not put that much money in anyone that I could not count on for the next 5 yrs (which is why people like Embiid and Kawhi are out) Rocket River

luka was worth about double kyrie this year in terms of impact/production (unless you're just making a joke in which case fair enough)
You know the max is only around 40% of the cap right? They're not to be thrown around lightly but they're not sacred either. Teams could have 2 or 3 and still build good teams around those especially with all the exceptions that let you go over the max. Also with the cap increasing by more than the projection some years, the % of total cap actually gets smaller. It's only really bad if the player starts to suck because of age or injury while still on that max. It's actually kinda bad for a competitive team to not have a max guy even if they aren't a true top 10 player because that means your severely overpaying role players.
1) Anthony Edwards 2) Luka Doncic 3) Victor Wembanyama 4) Nikola Jokic 5) Giannis Anteokounmpo 6) SGA 7) Jayson Tatum 8) Tyrese Haliburton 9) Jalen Brunson 10) LBJ (I know that seems crazy, but I would still do it) You could make good arguments for at least 10 more players to be your core #1 guy and thus worth the max, but those other guys come with severe availability questions (Embid), age questions (Curry), or been around too long to not have been close to ever actually been a title contender (Mitchell).
