The mariners are familiar with our guys. But you are right, we need to be ready for a locked in team today.
RH Gilbert on the mound tonight. Astros have seen him tons and Altuve and Bregman own him. (Breggy breakout?) Lineup I would like to see (based on actual recent) Altuve DH Tucker RF Alvarez LF Bregman 3B Pena SS Diaz C Singleton 1B Loperfido CF Dubon 2B But I expect Espada to give Cabbage a start today or tomorrow so maybe he plays instead of Dubon or Singleton.
I wasn’t able to catch all the details from last night - was driving from Baytown to Austin during the game - insane wreck that turned into a parking lot on I-10 between Houston and Katy - TMI but was pulling Loperfido situational?
Yes. Down 2 w/ runners on 2nd and 3rd and 1 out in 7th inning. Mariners brought in a lefty. Espada countered w/ Meyers. Right move IMO and it worked.
You can’t let a guy face a platoon disadvantage that has a 45% k rate hit for himself in that situation. I know that K rate is SSS but he’s still a k eating to happen based upon his numbers since reaching AAA. That’s not shade- I like him.
It's his inability to get on base. Career .296 OBP that is ****ing abysmal. That only works if you are hitting 30+ HRs a season and Meyers has no where near that type of power. Same with Dubon, career .296 OBP. The only thing saving Meyers right now is 6 EBH's out of his 12 hits. That is likely unsustainable for him. Given more ABs his OPS is going to ****ing plummet.
Dusty was able to get Meyers or Chas in as a PH about once every 2-3 months against LHPs despite having them available on the bench more often. We'll see if Espada can get favorable matchups more often. While I agree his power numbers will likely regress, he'll likely play defense well enough to make him playable as a starter going forward. Though, Meyers is hitting the ball hard again like in 2021 instead of weakly like 2022 and 2023 as it takes a couple of years sometimes for power to return after shoulder surgery.
Love the super coo ads for “21 T-Shirt photos that show too much” eta: ooooh, just got a new one called “21 t shirt photos that show a bit too much”. Decisions decisions.
I wish we could see Diaz at 1B some. when Framber and JV start I’d probably go: Caratini, Diaz, Altuve, Pena, Bregman, Loperfido, Meyers, Tucker- DH- Alvarez. When Chas is healthy I’d play him in CF on days Loperfido plays and slag on days Meyers plays.
The awesome chick that had been running Astros social media left after the 2023 playoffs and is now with the Raiders. Not sure who it is this year.
Rewatching some of the game, Astros benefitted on ball-strike calls 7th inning on, and Pressly's DP was very fortunate. Perhaps the early-season foolery is balancing. Need better play to win today and/or get more luck.
I’d swap Bregman and Diaz, let Alex try to get on for Singleton who has some power otherwise why keep him at cleanup…..
This reminds me of playing poker and going all in with pocket aces preflop. Someone calls stupidly with 6-6. Flop comes 66Q, but running aces come to give me the win. 6-6 guy then says how lucky I got even though at the time of the decision, I made the right decision.
