We are still only 12-20 and with a rag tag rotation and a fabulous baker boy at 1st base. Don’t forget our treacherous bullpen. we got this
Sine our manager has gone Dusty and plays a different lineup every night. Let's throw out Altuve, Diaz, Alvarez, Tucker, Pena, Singleton, Bregman, Lopefido, Don't give a **** when our two options are Meyers and Dubon. It's time to bring up Leon.
Meyers 763 OPS is currently higher than Yordan and Yeiner among others Is it his well above average defense you don’t like?
Thank you M’s for gift wrapping that W for the Astros. We are tied for 4th place. You can’t get the losses back. Have to keep winning series.
Reds are set to release Mike Ford. I know Singleton has shown a little life at the plate over the past week or so… but I think he’s worth taking a look at. Maybe a minor league deal with the understanding that he will have a real shot at big league AB’s
Re: Diaz-Maldy Astros 4-run 7th inning -- Diaz reaches on a (hard hit) infield single, then eventually scores on a shallow fly-ball (SF). EV aside, consider the speed difference. Maldonado likely never scores because he never reaches base in the first place, and he's not scoring on a 200-foot flyball. Who doesn't believe speed alone at catcher would've made a positive difference in a series that went 7 games? - Opponent gets added pressure - Opponent is forced to throw more pitches - Opponent is forced to use more pitchers (which especially matters over the course of a series when batters see the same players) BTW, when Diaz scored, another runner was able to advance.... then scored on a bunt next batter. YEAH.... last year still bothers me. "Jordan and trashcans" is still Houston's overall ring sentiment. We threw away a championship -- OTOT, Dallass caught it. .
I think you no longer look for a new player to help at 1B. Diaz/Caratini, Altuve, Bregman, Pena, Tucker, and Yordan are everyday starters leaving 3 spots: 1B, CF, and LF/DH. Dubon, Singleton, Cabbage, Loperfido, Meyers, Chas (once he is healthy), and whichever catcher is not starting are the options. Dubon, Meyers, and Chas all hit very well vs LHP and the Astros have acknowledged that Dubon is an option for 1B so those are the starters vs LHSP. The team really should be looking for a way to get all 3 on the field vs LHP and this is it. If 1 of them needs a day off plug in the other catcher. Loperfido, Cabbage, and Singleton can all play 1B and hit lefty so, theoretically, one of them should be good vs RHP and playing well at any given time. That is your starter vs RHSP and the outfield has plenty of options, especially if Singleton is that 1B. There are enough options on the roster now that they just need playing time to find out if they are legitimate options for September and (hopefully) into the playoffs. If not, 1B is one of the easier/cheaper positions to fill at the deadline.
The Mariners are young. I think they came in here expecting to play against a last place team and weren't ready to actually need to play hard and make good baseball decisions (especially fielding and baserunning) to win. You know Red-ass Servais laid into them after the game last night. I expect they will play better tonight. Astros better come ready.
