As bad as that is, umps can’t miss calls that blatant.

of if they’re solely looking at the mitt, use that to your advantage to get calls off the plate.

Yes. I would not have used him in a tie and if I did it would have been in the 10th with the runner on. Having said that, glad he did well.

They’re using their closer now in a tied game?

now in road situations, closers normally falter here. At leas make him pitch a ton to possibly get him out tomorrow.

I 100% agree with you on this. I’d rather save my closer for the 10th with the ghost runner on 2nd and have a much higher chance to strand the guy.

You’d be fired faster than Espada if Seth Martinez had given up a run to the top of the order in the 9th with your better pitcher being saved for a mythical situation.

It sucks whenever you can’t close a home game out in 9… but bringing in a reliever who doesn’t even crack your top 4 with the game on the line, and better options available, is malpractice.

And if your 5th best (or worst) reliever can’t hold them scoreless in the 9th?

This is unreal how much of an advantage the umpires have given them in this game.

Better frame job for umps that need all visual cues to make an easy call.

I think it’s circumstantial and depends on how the team and game are going and who your closer is and how often he pitches… I’m a lot more confident with Martinez coming into a game with no one on rather than a guy on second.
