Bagwell is still my all time favorite Astro and I love listening to his commentary in games when he fills in. It's so obvious his understanding of the game is next level. I still am amazed he predicted that guy trying to steal home on the air. I am also happy he is still part of the organization. However, I think he needs to be limited to opinion and recruiting only regarding player acquisition. Dana Brown and his staff should do 99% of that. And I also think he has much less "power" in that area than most fans think. He just happens to be a known figure and speaks publicly so he is who the fans see (and blame) I am convinced that the organization as a whole (including Click and several others who have since moved on) agreed on Abreu and Montero and Jeff just gets the flack because he is still here, he puts himself out there ( and admittedly doesn't always say smart things), and fans are ignorant of the inner workings of MLB organizations.
With Rest 6 1/3 innings, 1 run, 3 baserunners, 11 Ks In two back to back games 1 1/3 innings, 5 runs, 7 baserunners, 3 Ks One time in a situation where it wasn't back to back but was his 3rd game in 4 nights 1 inning, 2 runs, 3 baserunners, 1 K
Wasn't the last one where the middle game is where he had 3 pitches... I know it takes effort to warm up but...
No doubt he is being run out there way too much... but what choice is there when all the back end relievers are imitating Mitch Williams
This is part of the reason why this season began as a perfect storm. Somebody jokingly asked if the Astros won yesterday. Yes they did. Just having an open date is a win. Bullpen got more rest. Stros started the season with 20 games in 21 days. And yes.... Espada needs to do better.
After 8 days rest, Hader throws a scoreless inning vs Colorado --- ONE single, ONE strikeout, 0 walks. EIGHT DAYS when only one damn day likely makes the difference vs Toronto (BS). Astros would be 2 games closer to 500 and Hader's ERA would be 3 runs lower.
Just an update on the numbers In back to back or 3rd appearance in 4 days 3 1/3 innings, 7 runs, 10 baserunners, 6 K In all games with rest 11 1/3 innings, 3 earned, 11 baserunners, 18 K So with rest he has a 2.39 era, 0.973 whip and 18 K in 11 innings That’s not as dominant as what you would want, but if he hadn’t blown up in those back to back situations the outlook on him wouldn’t be nearly as gloomy Still tiny sample size obviously, but it’s way more likely than not he ends up earning that contract Not to mention the entire atmosphere around the team is so poor, and like it or not that affects performance. Team just needs something good to happen to it a couple nights in a row, and no, beating the Rockies doesn’t count
