Meyers and Kessinger batting 8th and 9th. That would scare any pitcher.

I think it's going to come down to pitching, not hitting.

Altuve, Yordan, Tucker, and Diaz can carry a lineup for 1 game.

Ok I'm calling it now - Big Jon hits HR #1 on the season tonight.

This offseason I wondered why Houston was signing so many AAAA arms, guys with some MLB experience but not much appeal otherwise. I think Houston might’ve somewhat anticipated this situation, and they can now rotate guys like Suero, Kuhnel, Scott, and Greene on and off the 40 man without losing them (although Scott has probably pitched his way into a roster guarantee).

    Suero has been DFA’d.

Don't players have an option to elect FA if they are removed from the 40 man and clear waivers (2nd time forward)?

With the state of pitching in MLB I don't see how any reasonable arm passes through waivers.

Kessinger won't give you anything at the plate but he at least plays better defense so losing Bregman might actually be a net positive.
Future glimpse of next season's lineup without him.

Right, and he will probably go unclaimed and they can stash him in AAA until they need him again.

It's crazy to expect Kessinger to play better defense than Bregman. He may have a great game with the glove, but if I had to bet real, meaningful money - it goes down on Bregman every day.

Now, unfortunately (or fortunately depending on your viewpoint) he may actually hit better than Alex would today.

    "We don't play that game!"

Reminds me of the scout guy in "Moneyball" who said, "You're gonna fail, Billy! And, another thing, **** *** Billy!". ;)

    Let's just switch names here:

"You're gonna fail, Snelly! And, another thing, **** *** Snelly!"

    I feel better.

I would give Singleton all of the starts the next week or 2 week to prove it or hit the road. Hopefully the rest does the trick for whatever is ailing Abreu.

If only they had signed a pitcher that's pitched 3 innings so far this season with an ERA of 9 to a $60MM contract, everything would be right with the Astros.
