    The argument I’ve made is that there are good economic reasons to address this issue the long term cost of dealing with climate change will exceed the cost of adjusting energy sources.

    Besides just addressing climate change moving away from fossil fuels has many benefits such as a distributed power generation thst can be done anywhere and also improves things like air quality. Improvements in energy efficiency literally pay for themselves.

    The problem that we have with why figures like Greta Thunberg get so much attention because we as a culture like personalizing things both for a cause and against it. We’re celebrity obsessed so it’s hard for issues to gain traction without attaching a face to it. They also works in reverse to that it’s easier to attack and demonize an issue when a face and name are attached to it.

    It should also be noted that companies that make real efforts with ESG outperform in the stock market.

    We know what she was protesting. The problem is there's always going to be an issue everywhere whether it's fish or birds or who knows what. there's a certain mindset to be this type of activist means being content or happy is never acceptable - at some point you say hey at least this is better than doing nothing but you can't when you're an extremist... no matter where are you build windmills there's always going to be repercussions as far as an ecological impact

    It's the same thing as saying hey we need to do some thing about oil and gas consumption... extremist believe only EV vehicles is the way forward where a middle ground might be hybrid to reduce the complete reliance on the electric grid and lack of charging stations and the complexities involving the maintenance and operation - but we know doing something little even if it's worthwhile it's not good enough for an extremist - a lot of businesses promote bringing your own bags not because of the environment necessarily but because there is a cost savings to grocery stores , same reason I'm transitioning to EGO electric blowers instead of gas blowers in my business fleet as well as Milwaukee push mowers - it has to make sense

    so this comes back to windmills where does it make sense to build where there is no ecological impact and I would argue it would be almost impossible to answer that question
    Reindeer are nomads that roam, depending on the season, to find lichen, their main source of nourishment, especially in winter. If they're disturbed by the wind turbines, they'll look elsewhere.. This sounds like more of an inconvenience thing, then the actual impact- and it's really not impacting the reindeer. They simply graze in a different area. But because we want to protect culture of individuals to a specific area, should not supersede progress, I would think.

    Around 2,600 Sami people in Norway make their living from herding reindeer, and the majority of the region of Northern Norway is actually used for raising reindeer. Traditionally, most Sami people have supported themselves through fishing, livestock farming, and hunting, along the coast, on the fjords and alongside the large rivers farther inland. Today, a large proportion of the Sami people live outside the traditional Sami areas and have moved into the towns of Northern Norway or to the Oslo area. Even more, they still live in traditional Sami settlement areas but earn their living in the modern service sector, industry, travel and the public sector.

    This right here is indicative that adapting is now part of the norm so please let's not act affecting their culture is more than traumatizing

    The courts there already said the windmills weren't permitted. Her protest is in favor of seeing the determination of the government be executed. You paint her like she'll protest anything and everything anyway. In all honesty, I find her super annoying, and I doubt public protest is even the way to go on this one. But, she actually seems to be on pretty solid ground here.

    I am editing what I said here - I gave reasons for why I don't agree with the court decision in my above posts but having said that it's still a court decision, so to some extent I agree...

    Reindeer COMPLETELY and absolutely fine in this case they graze the lichen and move about where needed…that’s what they do , the court decision was about a supposed culture inconvenience that in reality is not based on actual dependency from the 2600 Sami living in Norway based on the diversity of what they do to support themselves INCLUDING a modern activities such as service , industrial and travel as cited

    I haven’t followed this particular case closely but yes I agree that every major energy project, really any project, will have some negative drawbacks on the environment. Pros and cons always have to be weighed but that is one reason why efficiency and conservation of energy and resources should be as if not more
    Important when addressing our long term development.

    @rocketsjudoka
    Isn’t the whole war in Ukraine bad for the climate?
    Why isn’t she in Moscow standing in front of cameras at the Kremlin

    I’m sure reindeer don’t want to step on landmines or get hit by artillery

    Bruh, imagine if Hamas is going about their normal terrorist business and while they are traveling they come to halting stop because the tunnels are being blocked by woke liberals.... Them tunnels would have insane traffic and none of the terrorists will be able to get to their war on time...
