Positives yesterday: - no high leverage guys were burned - we weren't shutout - we weren't no-hit - no new injuries Negatives: - everything else Hunter must get his s*** together. Not sure how he looked in ST, but if this continues he'll be in the bullpen or in the minors. As for today, the pitching matchup favors Houston. We slugged Gray all last season plus he completely sucked in his first start this year vs Chicago. France was mediocre vs Arlington last season and in his first start this year. I would sign up for 5 IP 2 runs right now -- 6 IP 3 runs would be highly acceptable too. Astros offense needs to continue its success vs Gray. High leverage guys are all available, but I'd rather have a bigger lead and not be forced to use all of them. Stros next open date isn't until the 18th. .
I’m not sure what velocity he’s lost but he threw a great high FB to Garcia which you can just not do. ****, you can’t throw that to any batter in the majors…..
His BA of .179 and OPS of .531 is right on par for him this time of year. As for par, he is scoring double and triple bogies in reality.
Hunter Brown even on his best days only goes 4-5 innings. Way to inconsistent, feel he’s a bullpen guy or trade bait. I don’t see Brown ever consistently giving Astros 6-7 innings
Are the Rangers also inexplicably closing their roof with good Texas weather? Did anybody in the Houston media (besides CP) deservedly call out the Astros for those idiotic decisions?
He pitched 6 or more innings in 12 of his first 22 starts last season -- a handful of those were 7 innings. But, I get your drift. He's been terrible for a while. Logic would suggest he was fatigued late '23 being his first full season. but there's no excuse now. 2024 barely started and he's already sucking ass.
I dunno, man. I think the Rangers may have almost all of our pitchers figured out after the playoffs. If France keeps them in check, then I will be impressed. I'm not sure new baby motivation is a thing. lol I hope it goes well and he has some offensive support...cause pitching a shutout seems a lot to ask the way the Rangers are hitting us since the playoffs last year.
On average Brown got into the 6th inning last season and he got through 6 in 40% of his starts, so no he doesn't give you only 5 "on his best day" The length he gives you is fine for a pitcher in 2024. Effectiveness is still certainly up in the air.
