I’m somewhat surprised to see the concerned reactions. Drafting a young WR could have been fun, but comes with risk (see Metchie; still hoping). CJ’s window has started and by year two our GM has given him an exceptional cast. If it couldn’t be Higgins or Allen, we needed one more piece to put us over the edge. Also remember that future picks are often seen as one round later value relative to current year. So it is almost better seen as we moved back a round, picked up a 5th & 6th, get a pro bowl WR for our ascending QB….for a 2023 3rd round pick equivalent. Solid, solid value and move.
Diggs is still prime, and experience counts for something. The Texans receiving corp is going to be awesome. You can't cover them all. Who draws the double coverage? Somebody is going to be open, and Stroud can shoot secondaries full of holes with that kind of receiving corp.
Even if this doesn’t work out, i still think it’s a good move. For a young team, this risk/reward is in their favor. If works out, then you’re a real dangerous playoff team. It doesn’t work out, well then you’re still a pretty dangerous team based on the other signings and last years momentum…but without a 2nd round pick.
yeah a restructure is common. But a new deal would be 3 yrs/73 million/ 50 guaranteed. Which is what I was originally not liking with him being 31 soon. I remember people that were lobbying for Evans change tune quickly when the numbers came out. But I love the trade otherwise.
The best thing about this deal is it costs very little to move on if he doesn't fit into the Texan's way. Like every move, it is a cost benefit calculation. If he's suddenly happy and productive in his new role, the upside could be great. He will have to get used to splitting targets with his team mates.
Shultz is not chopped liver. If the Offensive line does their job, the Texans will be an offensive juggernaut.
Aaron Wilson on the Bart Winkler show: "From the people close to Diggs that I've spoken to he has never been more motivated. Excited to go to Houston" Winkler: "It feels like a funeral in Buffalo."
Oh agreed, there is risk. But we needed one more piece and spent 3rd round capital to get a pro bowler. Divas are always concerning, but I’m also curious how much it was locker room + coach in Buffalo. If the room runs into an issue, something tells me DeMeco is no McDermott either.
