He's just the boil on the surface. The party is rotten to the core and the "conservative" GOP has been fully replaced by the MAGA fascist GOP.
Unfortunately, I think this is right. Republican party will continue to be maga even after Trump is dead.
I agree with @VooDooPope, it's hard to turn that page when they've opted to embrace this new wave of politics. It's disturbing to say the least and our best hope is that a legitimate third party arises out of this mess to reclaim the tradition of the GOP. I know it's wishful thinking, especially since the majority vote based on party rather than on the qualifications of the candidate, but it sure feels like it's our only hope. It's very irritating that these individuals are not interesting in governing but rather just stirring the pot and being disruptive. I don't understand how anyone can support these extremists, but they have slowly infiltrated our government, and quite frankly the **** show in the house is a real live demonstration of how things can shift if "republican" voters who claim not be MAGA continue to vote for these individuals.
Someone on the Radio was speaking about how this is probably the best time for a 3rd Party to step up They may not be able to get the Presidency but They could grab some mayorships, governorships, state congressment and maybe some fed positions The problem with third parties in America is they only want to shoot for Presidency They have no plan beyond running someone every 4 yrs to have a big LOOK AT ME moment Rocket River
I had thought that after 2020 the Trump hold on the party would end but MAGA has so thoroughly taken over the part they even many of those who spoke out against Trump January 2021 are back following him. I get the feeling that even if Trump loses again this year it won’t break the hold he has over the party. If the Republicans lose this election and either this one and or the next midterms Republicans lose control of the House and Senate that could likely lead to a major reshuffling of the party. Given how solid Republicans hold several states and how much they’ve gerrymandered it’s unlikely it’s the end of the party but there could be a break with the party for politicians like Larry Hogan, Lisa Murkowski might leave soon. If Trump loses this year I still wouldn’t count him out for running again in 2028 but it’s likely going to be a much more contested primary.
Trump will clone himself so that there are always three trumps: one young, one old, and one in the middle. And they will rule the world for the next 7,000 years.
Possible that the party will splinter between the real small government conservatives and the MAGA. Problem is Republicans know they will lose any major race that way and so they need to keep trying to appease the lunatic fringe. I’m hoping the freedom caucus types get fed up with all the losing and “compromise” and splinter anyway. Either way as long as the GOP runs on no actual policy platform and just promote guns, God, anti-abortion, and tax cuts for the rich they will slowly wither away.
