2017 Astros broke the major rule: you don't embarass the blue bloods and you don't interfere with a Yankee-Dodger matchup.
Not the Yankees... but Astros-Dodgers had better ratings than Red Sox-Dodgers one year later. This is also before the sign stealing story broke. 2017 Astros were very well liked across the country and it was a genuinely trending story with this franchise winning their first title ever, along with being right after Harvey, etc. etc. (then Springer, Altuve, Correa make a cameo on SNL that week, etc.). Not to derail this too much... but basically the media can assign whatever narrative they want to any story, regardless of the true severity or the ultimate true outcome.
This is completely different. We broke the rules and had someone rat on us. if Fiers didn't go to the press, everything would been swept uh nder the rug. This on the other hand is really up to law enforcement. If it was his bets, we will find out. If he paid his buddy's debts, we will find out because the FBI. IRS, California and homeland security will figure it out. Large scale illegal gambling, money laundering, wire fraud, tax evasion, grand larceny are all at play here.
Of course it’s different. But my point was that even if the Yankees or Red Sox or dodgers had a whistle blower… the story would have been handled differently. Different media markets incite different narratives. That will always be true.
There is more to this. Whether Ohtani made the bets and or his friend is more than a close friend (gay or bisexual....the guy has been around Ohtani for a LONG time). There is something being hidden. I don't care about his personal relationship, but the lying about betting will get him in trouble.
Are you speaking as someone that actually has knowledge/expertise of the legal process or just speculating?
A spokeswoman for CAA declined to answer questions on the record about whether the organization had any role in managing his finances.
Both. One of my best friends is a federal attorney so I know more about the law then I want to lol. With a case like this they're not going to be able to get everyone involved and while some of the details will come out we'll never hear the whole story. Now admittedly the speculation on my end is that I only have the details of the case that we have been provided
This will be a slow burn investigation all year, unless someone steps up with anything immediately tangible. I don't hate Shoei, but I hate seeing him everywhere all the time. so, I do hope there is a thorough and Non-Los Angelas bias investigation. On the other hand my hatred for the Dodgers makes me want to have shoei on some sort of investigatory leave just because.
