After looking at a film study of Sweat and a Film study of Brown, I don't think they are the same player. Brown does what I thought Sweat would do, but didn't, at least in the film I saw. The biggest problem is Brown wants to be paid top dollar and valuations are currently almost exclusively based on sacks, not the total game. SPOTRAC list his Market Value at $11.7M and he wants to be paid based on Tackles at about $23M+. I personally think he's somewhere in between and valuations are very skewed, but it's a problem.
No joke! He’s downright dominant against the run, finishing last season as Pro Football Focus’ No. 4 ranked defensive tackle, overall, and second-ranked run-stopping interior defender in the league.
We can’t afford him. There are too many good DTs in the draft to give up picks and spend 20m. Still hoping we can get a reasonably priced safety.
If you want the highest tackling DT and 2nd best DT against the rush it's worth it to me. No draft pick is going to be near that level. But, like you said, we probably can't afford him unless some contracts get reworked. Draft a safety and WR and skip a DT if you can sign him. He's the perfect age of experience and youth.
Why the hell is Derrick Brown's name even mentioned as a possible trade? The Panthers just traded away Burns and I heard they love Brown over there. I thought I read they're trying to extend him...not trade. Don't see any chance he's on the block.
CB will be the most developmental in a while, but a crazy c Great Ds of the Past. Doomsday I Doomsday II The Steel Curtain Chicago's one year wonder. (1986?) Dominant D has almost been destroyed by rule changes favoring the offense. The trend is to eliminate D altogether since every form of tackling is being outlawed.
He's been having off season battles for the last three off-seasons. He's feeling used and abused. But of course, nothing makes one feel wanted like $$$$$$$$$$$$.
We have more cap space and more incentive for him to come play for DeMeco and a better team. Anything is possible. Now get Tunsil's or Howard's contracts restructured. I know Carolina thinks he'll stay, but we could lure him to a sweeter future.
This. Restructure Tunsil and Howard and make the Brown trade and extend him. Draft CB, S, WR. Adding Brown to Autry, WAJ, and Hunter is going to be the best DL in the NFL. It will turn Sting into an all Pro and take significant pressure off the safeties. IF we can dodge the injury bug this team could be a juggernaut next season. Guys like CJ, Dell, Sting, WAJ are going to improve. The D will be stacked and the OL only needs health to be vastly improved. This team could easily make a SB run. You have to push in all the chips right now and go for it these few years before CJs extension comes up.
