Ohtani is such a nerd though. Y'all really think that fool got a gambling problem like for real? Does he even watch American sports like that?

Gambling, like many other addictions, doesn’t discriminate. You’d be surprised how many people you would never expect, become hooked after a single bet.

The real question to me is- was there another reason Ohtani decided to defer his money? Did he or those close to him decide it probably wasn’t a good idea to have access to the entirety of his annual earnings at this point in his life/career?

“Obviously I am covering for Shohei. I’m ready to face all of the consequences so he can continue his career.”

Get him outta here. Banned for life.

$4.5M is wired out of your bank account and you don't know about it until the media starts asking questions? That seems hard to believe.

So that's how the Angels never made the playoffs with Ohtani and Trout

What’s the problem if he didn’t bet on baseball?

Pay off gambling debts by fixing scores for them without ever betting on baseball. In for a Buck, in for Life.

$4.5M is a lot of money. And based on the story, it must have only taken 2 years to get to that point. Illegal gambling organizations want that involvement so they can blackmail you into shaving points or providing inside information. Gambling addiction is extremely serious. It is entirely possible that Ohtani has never placed a bet or asked a bet to be placed on his behalf, but his camp changing the story so quickly indicates they are lying to us.

Extremely hard to believe that the interpreter was given a $4.5M line of credit in an illegal gambling ring. The only way that happens is if Ohtani was shaving, Ohtani was the one actually betting, or the interpreter somehow had proof of funds ahead of time. That last option is the least likely. It’ll be interesting to see how this plays out.
