Restructured contract. Tunsil and timing. Xavien Howard failed a physical on his foot with Miami. L'Jarius Sneed is available because they need to pay Chris Jones. Sneed asking price was 2nd round pick but so many teams were interested that the asking price has jumped up to first rounder. Teams are killing it over.....including the Texans. Fact is the Texans may even pick up a waived vet up until end of preseason as vets are waived then as well. A corner or a DT, but money has to be there then. You know, not wasted just to waste right now to appease the impatient fans.
KC has drafted well and filled out their roster with cheaper contracts. The same with Baltimore. Mahomes just restructured and cleared 21 million against KCs cap. Barkley was always going to Philly if they got anywhere close to the Texans. They are paying him almost 15 million this season with bonuses. Give me Mixon and another player all day long for that price. Wilkins was way over paid with his injury history. You act as if Nick can force people to take money. We have no idea what Nick offered people. Rankins signed with Cincy, but he went to college at Louisville, 1.5 hours away. You nor I have absolutely no idea why athletes choose who to sign with. It isn't always about money. Cashman is from Minn. He signed with Minn. Big shocker there.
Well why pay Azeez Shir $37M, when you could have had Casman for $25M. Cashman fit well into our system, correct? Thats $12M right there. We can "WHAT IF" all day long but none of us know the future. SF traded for an INJURY PRONE RB but he took them to the SB. You can’t be scared.....YOU HAVE TO TAKE RISK! Armstead, who was a legit DT, who knew Demeco, who spoke highly of both CJ and Demeco and who Im sure wanted to come here but wanted to get paid too. PAY HIM
Arik Armstrad is 290 pounds and has played Defensive End most of his career 23/24: 12 games: 4 TFL, 15 solo tackles, 5 sacks (just for reference: Maliek Collins: 23/24: 310 pounds, 16 games, 8 TFL, 19 solo tackles, 5 sacks) San Francisco is now saying they have a real DT now. One persons trash is another person treasure N Suh is listed at 313 pounds, i agree with you as DT. Superbowl year 2018: 36 solo tackles, 4 YFL, 4.5 sacks Aaron Donald 280 pounds is considered exceptional for his weight playing nose tackle. Please don't say they are readily available. Fletcher Cox listed as 310 pounds. 23/23: 15 solo tackles, 3 TFL, 5.0 sacks as DT previous year listed as DT/DE: 23 solo tackles. 7 TFL, 7 sacks ________ So stats can be deceptive, DT has more blockers in front of them, where as DE can have more opportunities to get around the edge and succeed from miscommunication of teammates. Again, what's important to you that the DT needs to exhibit?
Sneed is going to either be traded or play 1 year on a tag and leave. KC essentially delayed their cap crunch year(they’ll be like the bills next year, needing to cut quite a few players to get under the cap) Baltimore lost Queen, and Lamar’s extension hasn’t kicked in yet, and they’re getting close to being capped out fully. They also drafted incredibly well, they’ll be a crunch for them the next two offseasons Throwing money around for the fun of it is a recipe for disaster. The Texans have been incredibly smart with their cap space and continue to maintain flexibility. It sounds like a cliche cop out, but they’re in a position to do things like acquire a disgruntled WR if such thing becomes available
Because Cashman is from Minn. Went to college in Minn and might have said. " You know what? That is plenty for me to be able to live and play at home." You have absolutely no idea what the Texans offered.
Not being impatient, just thinking clearly. Teams don't waive PREMIUM POSITION PLAYERS. The Titans are not going to waive Simmons, KC is not doing to waive Jones, Bal is not going to waive Madibuike. Our biggest needs this off season was DT, RB, and WR, we only filled one, RB.
You complaining about the Texans not overpaying but then complain when they do pay a good price for an upgrade at a vital position within the defense, is contradictory
Dude, teams "KICK THE CAN DOWN THE ROAD" every yr! The object of the game is to WIN A SUPER BOWL, not manage the payroll. KC, Bal and SF play to win. We have a good , possibly great, QB on a rookie deal.....YOU HAVE TO GO FOR IT NOW
Arik Armstead is not worth 17 million per year. He has played something like 21 games in the last 2 years with 23 solo tackles and 5 sacks. This is how you get into trouble ,signing an oft injured player to a huge contract.
…kicking the can down the road is literally managing the payroll. Again, other than not overpaying for a very often injured DT and missing out on Saquan, what have the Texans not done that says they’re not going for it?
I'm back to this. It's cute to see Aaron Wilson and all the other reporters telling us what the Texans did to get a receiver they ultimately didn't get but ultimately we need to get the job done still... the hell with all these excuses. We were and are still set up to fill these holes if we work strategically and diligently.
But maybe our edge rushers are bad @$$ now and we just need space eaters that don't get pushed back and quarterbacks step forward right into the arms of our DT's. DT's like Tim Settle or (drafted) Kris Jenkins (310 pounds) or Ruke Orhorhoron (291 pounds) or McKinnley Jackson (325 pounds) or Branden Fiske (300 pounds) Sometimes the DT needs to occupy the Guard-Center which allows Will Anderson and Hunter to be bad @$$es to stunt up the middle. Edge rusher gets the glory, but DT plays an important role.
My response was to NOT OVERPAYING. Go back and read. He stated that the objective is to not overpay. Well, if you had someone who fit your system, played extremely well and lead the team in tackles, in Blake Cashman, why not just resign him, rather than paying an additional $12M to another player, who coincidentally played for Demeco in SF?? If you OVERPAID him, why couldn't you find an additional $3M for Armstead. Is $3M that much in the NFL?
That doesn't mean they didn't try. Just like with us, I'm loving that they're trying to give Coleridge another weapon.
You really think KC would have won those SBs had they paid Tyreek and sacrificed in other positions? They structured the Jones contract where it only counts 7.5 million against the cap this year. SF has a great system. Look at all the turnover they have had on the Defense and they keep replacing them. Just like Demeco is doing. It makes it easy when your QB is making 1 million per year. BAL hasn't even made a Super Bowl.
My only issues with that are Settles was a rotational piece and rookies are risky, because you haven't seen them in the NFL and if you are considered a SB contender or want to take the next step, the middle of your D-Line and your O-line has to be secured.
cont'd Tim Settle played in 17 games with Buffalo 23/24 started in two: 9 solo, 1 TFL, 1 sack......but more than likely play on running downs like short yardage while Audry at DT comes in on 3rd and long or passing downs.
