He has power and +4 OAA in 1000 MLB innings in the OF. Not someone you would want to give up a lot for as most likely he ends up simply as a AAAA player but could be insurance should Meyers struggle.
Assuming the cost is super low he would be a good fit as the bench OF. He’s out of options and strikes out too much. But I would imagine a rebuilding team would pony up more in the hopes he can level up.
I got sick at the end of it. Andrew wanted to hold it to see if I got better and we could finish up talking about LMJ and garcia but we decided to work them in next week to the bullpen. It’s up and that joker didn’t even edit out the end because he thought it was funny.
I think I would prefer to see Leon get a shot at the bench OF job before trading for someone outside the organization. I have not seen much of him this Spring, perhaps they have already given up on him.
He's one of the guys I mentioned in the offseason. Killed RHP and sucked hard vs LHP last year. Yes he has a high K rate, but 132 wRC+ vs RHP and 45 wRC+ vs LHP.
Brings up many questions Does the team want a CF bat who is better vs RHP? Chas, Jake, and Dubon are all much better vs LHP. Does the team feel Chas and/or Dubon are not up to playing significant CF if Meyers reverts to a platoon guy or back up? Do they feel Loperfido needs more seasoning and not happy with any LH hitting bench options? Do they recognize an opportunity to snag a high ceiling player because he has no options and the Angels are in a bind?
There’s a meme of that guy who still looks like a kid that shows him living his best life and says “they say I have a disability and I say I have dis ability to get this bread” and I cry laughing every time and this post gives that same energy
I don’t know - it was mentioned in passing. Astros were offering infield or pitching for him - not anyone major. My guess is he would platoon with Meyers. Maybe Brown and his superstar scouting staff see something … he has developed power and was a good glove last year from what I saw. Lots of miss in his game but some pop.
to be fair to Andrew, it was absolutely hilarious. PS. I agree with you on the pitching. I’m unreasonably optimistic on Brown and Javier and worry Famber and JV will both be middling starters (and maybe worse if Framber can’t get his head straight).
I have no problem platooning to get more production vs RH Pitchers whether it's Meyers or McCormick. Just keep an eye on which is struggling most vs RHers. This is particularly true since most SP are RH and that's our weaker side.
If JV stays healthy I think he’s going to be pretty good. I know he’s old but he didn’t seem like he was in danger of falling off a cliff and the all timers (which he is one) have pretty consistently pitched well at 41 if they pitched well at 40.
