Is there a reason why you think 5 threes is the number to target to be a complete player? That seems to be a lot of shots from deep. Jokic averages 2.9 attempts per game for his career. Last season he only attempted 2.2. Embiid averages similar volume for his career. Even at his lower volume Jokic still opens up lanes for his teammates in Denver. He's a threat from deep, but not a sharpshooter, so it's beneficial for him to rely more heavily on his post game. Jokic this season takes 17.6% of his of his shots from deep. If Sengun had the same ratio at 5 threes per game he'd need to average 28 FGA. It's hard to see why Sengun should take more threes than Jokic when he's a worse shooter.
I don't agree with the logic to assume 'a player should hit x number of 3s'. Each player has different strengths and in particular Sengun has a very unusual combination of skills, like jokic, that taking more 3s might not optimize his game. But the same logic applies to Sengun as well, he shouldn't have limits in his mind like 'i don't wanna shoot that many threes'. if he can shoot over 35% on 3s and his inside game is not as efficient as jokic, why not shoot them more? and more importantly that mentality is probably kind of keeping him from trying more 3s and improving in that area.
Amen is our Iggy. No one should be upset if he ends up having a career like Iggy. Not option 1, but a very important player. Honestly he can be better than prime Iggy due to his athleticism.
Yes, I love Amen. I just noticed that some of the Sengun haters/detractors have been desperately clinging to a hope that Amen could become "the guy" - not so much necessarily because they know Amen will ever be that good, but because they don't want Alpi to be "the guy". That's why the same people are dreaming of drafting some unproven center like Sarr. Sengun is the franchise player. It's inevitable. The haters will have to deal with it.
Seriously, if Stone STILL doesn't get it that he must build around Sengun, he should be fired on the spot. Get high-percentage shooters who can play D and protect the ball, like Reed Sheppard, Tyus Jones. Lose low-percentage, inefficient players who aren't great at shooting. Get people who are great at cutting and willing to do it. The Steven Adams trade was a great move, think about also getting someone really tall who can jump like a pogo stick as 3rd string rim protector/shot blocker so we can react flexibly to matchups. We have our centerpiece - and to "the front office's" credit, we also have extremely promising additional players, such as Tari, Amen, Bari, Cam, and some solid vets now. I firmly believe we are not far away. But reports that "the front office" doesn't view our generational talent highly are VERY concerning.
Alpi is inevitable. Shaq and Jamal Crawford agree. "He is fundamentally sound like Tim Duncan." - Shaq "I love the way he plays. I respect his game." - Shaq "He reminds me of a young Pau Gasol. Pau Gasol had great fundamentals also. I like this kid. Much respect." - Shaq "He is gonna be a stud." - Jamal Crawford
Been wanting Lauri to play next to Wood. Is it 2020-2021 again. Probably the only star that will be available I'll take it.
Sengun-Wemby matchup is basically Hagler-Hearns. To beat a lengthy boxer you have to cut down the ring, corner him and work to the body. You can't beat Wemby in his own game. That kid is at least 7'5. When you are that tall you can never be strong. You can be 7'1 and strong but never 7'5 and strong. Wemby is already ~230 pounds if he puts more weight on him his knees might give up one day. Forget that "Once he bulks up it's over" r****ds on social media. Wemby knows that he can't handle it. Spurs know it too. He will always be tall, lanky and weak. So Sengun will always have the upperhand in terms of physical raw strength. He will not always drop 45 on his head but trust me when i say this, he will never get outclassed. Also people are still hyping up Chet-Wemby for some reason. Chet is Wemby but worse. Why would the lesser version of Wemby be a problem for Wemby? My cousin is 15 and let's say i'm 30. We are both humans i know him his capabilities. I'd **** him up 10 times out of 10. I'd maul him every time we fight. He is smaller than me, he's just the worse version of me in every imaginable way but if you bring a 15 year old 5 ft tall chimpanzee i might lose that fight because gorilla possesses a certain elite skillset that my cousin doesn't possess. Sengun is the chimp while Chet is my cousin.
