I didn’t claim it was stolen. As stated the Constitution gives the Senate the power to make its rules. McConnell chose to abuse and then run roughshod over those rules when it suited him. He’s all but guaranteed that if Trump or another Republican president faces a Democrat senate they will deny a hearing or vote on their nominee.
My bad. I lumped the replies with yours. There is a race to the bottom with senate norms...and Trump asks "what norms?"
House Bill 500 Takes Away Kentucky Workers’ Lunch and Rest Breaks and Cuts Their Pay House Bill (HB) 500, which may receive a vote in the full House soon, would take away Kentucky workers’ rights to lunch and rest breaks at work and would eliminate pay protections, including for time spent traveling to and from a job site during work hours. It is an assault on longstanding basic rights and dignities on the job that will harm practically all Kentucky workers. Specifically, HB 500: Repeals the requirement that employers provide a lunch break. Since a state law passed in 1974, businesses must provide a lunch break every three to five hours, but that right would be eliminated under HB 500. Instead, HB 500 says only that a worker required to keep working without a lunch break can’t be denied pay if they juggle eating something while on the job. However, if the employer does provide a lunch break and they discover a worker eating at another time while on the clock, they will not be required to pay them for that time — even a worker who needs a snack for medical reasons. More On Jobs & The Economy: HB 465 Will Further Undermine Worker Protections and Job Quality Repeals the requirement that employers provide a rest break. Currently, employers must provide at least a 10-minute rest break for each four hours of work in addition to a scheduled lunch period. HB 500 takes away that right, which was established in 1958. Repeals the requirement that employees who work seven days in a row receive time-and-a-half overtime pay. Current law, which has been in place since 1942, incentivizes employers to give workers a rest day to allow the opportunity for them to recover and spend time with their families, but that incentive would go away. Eliminates employer liability for failure to provide proper pay for work time spent traveling between jobs and for time spent on certain activities associated with starting and wrapping up a job. Employers could not be punished for failing to provide minimum wages or overtime pay for travel to and from a work site and for activities that are in preparation for, or part of the wind-down from, a work activity — such as donning and doffing personal protective equipment in a hazardous work environment. For example, a landscaping employee, roofer or HVAC installer traveling between job locations would not have to be paid minimum wage for that travel time under this change. Similarly, a worker in a chemical factory would not have to be paid minimum wage when they are putting on or off their safety equipment, nor would a bus driver doing safety checks before picking up kids from school or a lathe operator cleaning and greasing his or her machine. Decreases the statute of limitations for labor violations from five years to three years so workers have less time to report issues. The bill also bans punitive damages for employees who experience emotional distress, humiliation or embarrassment when being wrongly discharged from their job. Collectively, these provisions weaken multiple common sense protections for safe working conditions and fair pay that have been a part of Kentucky’s safeguards for more than half a century. HB 500 will make work more dangerous by depriving workers of food and rest, incentivizing them to travel too quickly to get to their job site, and discouraging them from taking proper precautions at the start of shifts. And it will take pay away from workers when they are moving between job locations, working excessive weeks, and engaging in necessary tasks at the beginning and end of the work day. https://kypolicy.org/house-bill-500...ers-lunch-and-rest-breaks-and-cuts-their-pay/
As the piece notes this isn’t just bad because it’s going after worker rights but it threatens worker and others safety. For fields like construction, food, and many others tired, hungry and overworked workers are more likely to make mistakes that affect their own and public safety.
This is typical GOP policy. They are always in favor of cutting expenses for the company owners and taking away rights and protections for the workers. Trump cut safety regs left and right as President. It's so sickening how they claim to stand for hard working Americans. I really don't get why any of these workers would ever vote Republican. They sure as hell won't get better benefits, more breaks, vacation time, or workplace safety if Republicans have their hand in it. Republicans screw the working class and poor, and cater to the rich. That never changes.
I guess maga ernst doesn't realize President Biden has long ago received his invitation to deliver the SOTU from the speaker of the house. But I still would love seeing the maga members trying to blockade the door or pull some other hyperpartisan stunt to prevent the President from speaking in congress. I am sure the news cycle of the further destruction of democracy by the republican party will make for a good storyline for the next few weeks.
What an odd way to try and unify as a party, I remember when they used to say their tent was big enough for everyone and now, you're going to tell moderates who don't support their party's extremism to leave? I guess the circle is about to be closed and it truly is the trump party. I never thought I would see that, you have some very talented moderates that lean toward the middle but all they want are the extremists, so they will all kiss the ring..........wow, just wow
I said I voted Republican before the last election. I was never right wing. At least I learned it wasn't the party for me, instead of sticking with it to my death. Trump took over and changed it in the worst ways possible. It's far too right wing and crazy now. Their policies are getting worse and worse. The whole tax cuts for the richest, the gun laws recklessness, the pandemics hoax BS, the mail in voting propaganda, the election lies, the fights against affordable healthcare, the stripping of safety regulations and inspectors, the election lies being spread as Trump claiming he won, the insurrection, the name calling and LGBQT hatred, the making heroes of insurrectionists, the embracement of Proud Boys and White Nationalists, the White Christian hypocrites who spit on their fellow American in need in their power quest and greed, were too much for my staying with that party. It's even worse every day, with the sickos making women carry babies of rapists, with the hate smears and lies campaigns, with the embracement of Putin and corrupt dictator types, with the refusal to compromise towards goals, and on and on and on. The party has never been as destructive, dangerous, corrupt, or full of ignorant people since Trump took over.
Trying to make sense of what I witnessed just now when I went to vote: -I live in a leans red county up here in DFW that is largely seen as one of the most important counties in Texas that could turn Texas blue eventually. Growing exponentially, and very diverse. -The line for the Rep primary was all the way out into the parking lot -The line for the Dem primary was almost non-existent. I get the sense that the Dem line was non-existent because D voters know there is no real race here which makes the extreme long line for the R's seriously interesting. Because by all accounts, the R primary SHOULD be just as non-competitive as the Dem primary given how Trump has a 99% chance in winning the nomination based on the early states. Will be fascinating to see if Haley overperforms on Super Tuesday because I suspect from what I was seeing that ALOT of Democrats were voting in the R primary. (if you are wondering I was hoping to vote in the R primary for Haley myself just to make things interesting, but I didn't have enough time to wait so said screw it and jumped in the Dem line)
