Trump's losing his memory. He's getting names mixed up left and right. I still love listening to him try to pronounce words with 3 or more syllables. Venezuela is one of my favorites. Uruguay might be another fun one.

Trump is causing another party reswitch among black voters

    https://unherd.com/newsroom/ny-times-trump-support-among-black-voters-grows-nearly-500/

Donald Trump’s support among black voters has grown by nearly 500% in the last four years, a new poll has found.

According to a New York Times/Siena poll released this weekend, the former president’s support among black voters is now 23%, marking a 19 percentage point increase since the same poll taken in October 2020.

The turnaround in opinion among one of the Democrats’ most reliable voting blocs is a worrying sign for Joe Biden’s re-election prospects. He secured 92% of the black vote in the 2020 election, the highest out of any minority group in the country. But growing disillusionment with the President’s first term and concerns about his age threaten to undermine the Democrat’s hitherto strong relationship with black voters.

Biden largely held onto the black vote in the 2022 midterm elections, but young black voters moved a notable 22 percentage points towards Republicans. Inflation — a top issue for black voters that year — has since fallen, but food, gas and rent prices remain stubbornly high, which may encourage some to stay at home in November.

Since the midterms, there has been little indication that those voters are coming back. In fact, more appear to be drifting in the opposite direction. In a separate poll last month, Gallup found that among black Americans expressing a party preference, the Democratic lead over Republicans has dropped by almost 20% in only three years.

This in spite of the efforts made by Biden to elevate black Americans to positions of power, including nominating Kentanji Brown Jackson to the Supreme Court. He also pushed to hold the first Democratic primary in South Carolina, which has a large black population, where he comfortably won the party’s nomination this weekend. “In 2024, the people of South Carolina have spoken again,” said Biden in a statement. “I have no doubt that you have set us on the path to winning the Presidency again — and making Donald Trump a loser — again.”

While the NYT poll in October 2020 found only 4% support for Trump, he went on to secure double that figure in the November election. Based on the most recent poll, it seems likely that he will build on those gains, with support growing among other minority groups too. Trump is also winning Latino voters outright over Biden by 46% to 40%, marking a 39 percentage point swing in the last four years (Biden won the Latino vote 65%-32% in 2020).

Though black Americans are by no means abandoning the current president, these polls are further confirmation that the voter bloc is not as reliable for the Democrats as it once was. Between the 2016 and 2020 elections, Donald Trump won a higher share of black and Latino voters compared to his predecessor by roughly 3 percentage points and two percetange points respective, helping him in battleground states such as Ohio, Florida and Pennsylvania.

The Republican is now leading in all seven swing states, and the election in November will be a test to see if he can hold onto these gains as the contest draws closer.

I agree, it's one thing for the polls to ask "are you better off now then 4 years ago" and you say "NO" and its another to say if you will vote for "the other guy" or are you one of those that say, yea, I am not better off but I am not voting for trump. I think there are large groups of people who would vote for trump and don't care about what happens, only reflecting on their own personal situation. He has maga lock stock and barrel but well have to see how the next 9 months go. I get it, when I go to HEB its higher but at the same time the stock market is excellent, jobs are there and the economy is getting better...............not to darn bad if you ask me. People are fickle, it should be a no brainer not to have trump with the nuclear codes again but I am sure this will be a nail biter and I wont be shocked if trump wins, I will b**** and moan but I will have to accept it..................but we have a long way to go. One thing about "polls", I have never been contacted to get my opinion so I dont know who they call or how that works.....like the Neilsen ratings, no one ever asked what we were watching :D

Trump may win the election - I said that almost 4 years ago.

Having said that - Most Republican presidential candidates win anywhere between 10% to 14% of the black vote. Most of the polling over the last few months has Trump at 12-16% of the black vote. So not much of a change. Perhaps it will be enough to shift a close election.

I think it is going to come down to American optimism near the election.

Both of these candidates are too old, and outside of the Trump cultists, this is known and accepted.

Apparently Biden is serious about running, which is stupid - but the DNC is stupid too.

When numbers are released about the economy - especially with probably the most skeptical electorate in over 100 years.... it only gets you so far.

I don't think that the majority of Americans think the economy is that good. The culprit is the wealthy inequality - with inflation and wage increases having almost no practical impact on the super rich. The upper middle class and middle and working class all feel it.

I get the sense that post COVID, and the purposeful erosion of institutions by Trump - has resulted in a lot of Americans not being confident in the USA or the direction it is taking. The majority of Americans have no idea the ripple effects impacting China, Russia, Western Europe and how growth in the USA has far exceeded the rest of the world of late - and most American's do not even care.

So we have some degree of chaos, and Donald Trump thrives in chaos.

Personally I will be glad when the man, and his minions have no say in government - the period from when he entered the real discourse ("I have big hands") has overall been bad, and it isn't a coincidence. He needs to go away.

Trump had a great response to the Supreme Court ruling I don't always agree with how Trump comes across or even what he says, but he resonated

Bidens border crisis has ultimately going to cost him. You're going to have more minorities, fed up with illegal aliens receiving checks while they receive nothing in the inner city, it's just not sustainable.

Cause it's pretty clear that they had the mindset that illegal immigrants was going to benefit them, but it is clearly backfired and now they're singing a different tune from the left-wing side compared to only three years ago

Inflation is a problem but it has come down while wages are up. This is the disconnect that many see because yes I pay more for groceries and eating out daily but I might not check my 401k everyday.

We also are rapidly moving into a post truth world. There is so much information out there that most people just filter it to their own biases. We see it here all the time.

For someone like Trump who has always been a masterful at branding and image manipulation makes it much easier to keep his support going.
