The first trailer is out for the anticipated “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire,” the sequel to 2021’s “Ghostbusters: Afterlife” at Sony Pictures. Shot under the working title of “Firehouse,” Gil Kenan (“Monster House”) helms the new entry – taking over from Jason Reitman, who remains onboard as a producer and co-writer with Kenan and Jason Blumenfeld. Additionally, Kumail Nanjiani, Patton Oswalt, James Acaster and Emily Alyn Lind have been cast in undisclosed roles, whilst Annie Potts is back as Janine Melnitz whilst William Atherton returns as Walter Peck. The project is considered ‘the next chapter of the Spengler family saga’ and returns the action to New York City and the iconic firehouse of the original film. The new film marks the first film in the franchise made without the involvement of Ivan Reitman The revival film grossed over $200 million worldwide from a $75 million budget. The new film has already been slated for a March 29th 2024 release. https://www.darkhorizons.com/first-trailer-ghostbusters-frozen-empire/
I'm shocked the first Paul Rudd revival movie did well enough to warrant a sequel. It was pleasant enough, but seemed like completely forgetable fan service, totally dependent on the original films.
the small town kids from the first movie made me think they were going in this direction: esp at the end when it appeared like winston was opening some kind of academy for future ghostbusters.
Think this will be a miss. I'm not against a sequel, as the new cast is interesting and likable. And liked the idea of the frozen city, but hated the ice spears. The story doesn't look too inspired or creative.
I might wait for it to stream, Paul Rudd did a good job on the last one so I will give it a shot on TV, but I probably won't go to the theatre. I feel like I am kind of spoiled with streaming, it will eventually end up there so I can wait. I now use the theatre for those movies that I just cant miss like Top Gun, Oppenheimer and Barbie
It's a very odd trailer #2... leads me to suspect it's a hot mess, but hard to argue with the cast if they do want some humorous parts (?)
