Ime made it clear that's what he's been asking from Sengun. Takes a lot of trust to ask that from someone not as experience in handling double teams. Makes him hesitate.
According to some we are just making excuses for him not being the same player but this is proof positive he is being instructed to play this way. Personally I wish they would turn him loose but I will trust in the plan for now.
He's an all-star level player but not a franchise level player. Franchise players can produce even when there are entire defensive schemes to slow them down. He ain't that guy. We will never win anything with him being our best player or even clearly our second best player. He's a Toni Kukoc/ Scottie Quitten level player except he plays horrible defense. He should be a 2B player or third best player on a championship team.
It would help if Alpi stops complaining and asking for challenges after every call. I think that he overly concerned about the refs and it's gotten into his head on both ends. Just leave the refs alone and get back to hooping. Complaining and showing up the refs doesn't help him in any way. Refs are vindictive. He's making it worse for himself.
Imagine being so low on your clear best player because he can't guard Valanciunas at 21. That bald d******d has to go if this is true.
This is his biggest issue; he constantly whines about fouls and no calls. I am honestly surprised that Ime doesn’t put a stop to it. Quit your b****ing and get back on D!
Just cuz he can't score in double teams now doesn't mean he won't ever. He's so young and you acting like he can't improve against those types of defenses, His shot needs to improve and then they won't be able to double him. He needs to go to flamingo shot early against doubles. It
You are & have been since he's been here. Hold him accountable the same way you hold others. He's not tired, it's not Udoka's fault or Stone, Silas is not racist, Sengun needs to do better the same way you been crying about Jalen needing too
This is really an oversimplification of the issue, it's not just about guarding guys like JV. Even if you ignore his physical limitations on defense, and even if you ignore his defense entirely, his offense has taken a nosedive lately and it is concerning. Throughout the first 30 or 35 games of the season he was playing like a true all star. You could count his "bad" games on one hand. He was extremely consistent, and putting up dominant performances left and right. He was outplaying and oftne times embarrassing other centers that were much older and bigger than him. But if you look at his past 20 or so games he's just not even close to the same player. He does have some of his best performances of the year in there (the Utah game and the Laker game come to mind) but he's been wildly inconsistent. It feels like half his games are bad games now, and even if they aren't bad, he has a bunch of games where he's just not having an impact. Like the phoenix game recently, he wasn't horrible but he just wasn't very good. The great all-star level performances are getting rarer, the terrible games are getting more common, and the "meh" games are now the norm. He has to get back to his early season form if he wants people to believe in him as our guy. I was all in on early season Sengun. But I'd be lying if I said I still had the same level of confidence in him now. I was hoping that he was just tired and not acclimated to playing major minutes as a lead guy, and I thought the all star break would be a great opportunity to recharge and get back to that early season form. But it didn't help him at all. He hasn't had a really great game in quite a while now. If he wants everyone to buy in then he really just has to play better.
There’s certainly Coach-player chemistry issue. A player might have different efficiency in some moves but it's not normal Alp to forget assisting/flamingos/floaters/fadeways suddenly. He even doesn't try. Should be a reason.
I think the alpi's situation is psychological. In the first matches, while the team bad and Alperen was playing very well, his coach constantly took him off the game, perhaps preventing him from becoming an all star. Stone didnt trade and showed that he didnt believe in this year. Now the team is bad and he keeps up with the team. He doesn't make any extra effort, he doesn't even do the things we know he can do, he passes the ball to his friends.
