Wemby will probably have a HOF career as long as he stays healthy. I wonder if modern technology and training will allow him to minimize injuries other big men of his size have suffered in the past. As long as he stays light without gaining too much mass he has a shot. That being said, F that loser and the Spurms!
I don't think it was noted in the article but didn't Hakeem have 2 in the same season but one was later modified and taken away, I think one of the assists was overcounted or something
Shaq needed Hakeem to humble himself..........sadly Wemby does not have that elite competition.... Chet is really a team player.
I have a better 3P% than Jalen Green, ... and longer hair than Yul C Brynner. God but posts like that are odd. I hope that was the point.
Chet had a good game for a rookie... Wembanyama had a great game for an All-NBA player. And he had a block on Chet that symbolizes the ROY race.
He was elite down the stretch and stitched up ROY - he did it all after picking up 2 fouls in the first 3 minutes Way more exciting switching over to this game than most of the Rockets game
Per 36 stats aren't real stats. You need the ability/stamina/body to play that many minutes. His dominance isn't arguably as good as either of those players. Shaq was at 24/14/3.5 on 56% as a rookie. He finished 7th in MVP voting. Duncan was at 21/12/2.5 on 55% as a rookie. He finished 5th in MVP voting. Granted Victor is younger than they were, but no, he was not as dominant as either of them in year 1. Shaq or Duncan would have more wins with this team because neither is a perimeter shooting big.
Personally, I didn't have any doubts that Wemby would win ROY. But I know many people even on here were either biased by the irrational hate for Wemby (because of the draft lottery stuff), or simply not being able to separate individual impact from team success. Wemby had his work cut out for him because he doesn't have the luxury of having a great team around him that also features an MVP candidate. Holmgren could just chill and play within himself which made him look very good and efficient all season long. But ultimately, as good as Holmgren is, Wemby is an even better player already (and with a higher ceiling as well) despite being 2 years younger.
It is pretty close..... Of course Wemby is not playing on a stacked team and can jack up more shots, that is the luxury of being on a tanking team. Chet is rarely playing out of control or taking bad shots.....or shooting a ton. ---- 3rd Option. Wemby has the higher ceiling which showed times and times again, but to say his rookie season was great or perfect.....it wasn't.
Never said it was a perfect season. And I wouldn't say that being on a tanking team is necessarily better. Sure, Victor can jack up more shots, but his efficiency has plummeted in return which created all these false narratives about him being far inferior to Holmgren on the offensive side. Holmgren is already a very good shooter, but being able to play a more defined role within himself, and having an MVP candidate set him up has made him even more efficient. Honestly the only reason why he was even in the conversation for ROY was his efficiency due to being the 2nd/3rd option, IMO.
I do not see hate other than Rockets fans here but that is natural given that the Spurs are an arch nemesis in history. And Wemby almost going to the Rockets. Quite honestly it does not annoy me that much because talent wins out and people can hate all they want....gotten used to it. Media nation wide are actually positive towards reporting him.
None of this was a given. Although quite likely. He will still likely miss a ton of time throughout his career.
Since moving Wemby to center and ending the Point Sochan lineups, the spurs have gone from the worst defense in the NBA giving up 120-somehting per game to a solidly average defense giveing up 116 or so. Even includign their horrendous start, basically adding Wemby alone has moved the Spurs from worst D in the NBA last year to 24th this year and they'll probably move up more as the year goes on. That's not going to be as much as the Rockets imporvement, but then they didn't buy $100 million worht of FA's and coaches to get it either.
