I thought the point of all these Real Adjusted Plus Minus stats was supposed to filter out noise due to role players playing with stars, playing against starters v. backups etc - but the top rankings are loaded with guys who play with other stars with better counting stats OR who primarily play against backups.

Always had a feeling that Jalen's starting point on his jumper would cause issues. Has to move right at the start to center itself, then make the normal shooting motion. Too many moving parts... why haven't the Rockets changed this yet is beyond me.

Well, what stood out to me about G league Jalen that I didn't like was that he was a streaky rather than good shooter who derived 100% of his game from raw athleticism and seemingly played no defense.

Rookie Jalen pretty much showed the same

A big issue for me was just how often he got blocked at the rim, he's just not elusive. Either he blows by people using his quick first step and gets an uncontested dunk, or he's praying for a whistle to bail him out.

That's pretty much always been his game and when it comes to young players, I've been burned too many times on freak athletes who have very little skill in the past, so I'll ALWAYS be skeptical about those kinds of players.

Or they could have just drafted Mobley anyway and told him to deal with it.

For all we know, drafting the more mature Mobley could have had a good effect on the childish simpleton that is KPJ.....certainly a better effect than drafting a childish simpleton in Jalen Green to be his "twin" as they called themselves.

Then again, if that happens, the Rockets probably don't tank for several more years meaning probably no Jabari and probably no Amen.

I love it how our Rocket media folks continuously try to theory craft ways to make Jalen less bad. If a player is bad you let another player take his place. People are like lets do XYZ to hopefully one day make him not horrible instead of saying wow this guy over here is better, lets put that effort into him instead. It is so sad because Cam and Amen are better players but wont get nearly the amount of attention Jalen got but they will be held way more accountable than he ever was.

lol. You're so determined to portray Green as a non-NBA-level player that you're not only imagining Mobley agreeing to play on the same team as KPJ, but also him actually turning KPJ into a model citizen.

Either Mobley has mentoring talents that weren't mentioned in his scouting report, or you just love to take random shots at Jalen. I'm going with the latter.

    Yeah, there are differences.
skinny athletic guys like Corey Brewer, Stacey Augmon, etc. they didn’t have basketball hands, more like BBQ tongs… But they made a good living by playing defense and doing blue-collar work, cutting, getting garbage buckets, etc.

There is no question that Green has more skill in his hands than these guys. But that skill is not elite and is not really improving. OTOH, he does absolutely zero blue-collar work, he thinks it’s below him. So I’m not sure the Brewer comp is very relevant. They are both skinny and athletic, but very different cases… BTW, Corey is both an NCAA and NBA champ. I’d be super happy if Green played a role like Brewer

he’s on his 2nd shooting coach - Lucas isn’t known as a shooting coach and I really feel his work with Jalen to speed up his shot jacked with it more than it helped it

My comment on technical fouls is more of a flippant one-off about how much his game has crashed back to earth since his great start. In truth, he's been relatively restrained this season. For him.

When you draft a player, it's not a matter of "agreeing", you play for the team that drafts you.

Also, I'm not saying "model citizen", I'm just saying that bringing in a better role model as the #2 draft pick could have a better effect than brining in KPJ's "twin"

If I was his shooting coach, I'd require an NDA so I didn't catch the blame for his inability to shoot.

You get credit as earliest and most prolific Jalen hater. I was down on him pretty early in his rookie year too, especially in comparison to Mobley and Barnes as rookies.

The things that stood out to me were some issues with fundamentals (streaky jumper with poor form and a handle that wasn't very tight), slight frame, poor basketball feel, and not understanding how to compete. It was a major red flag when the team drastically improved after he got hurt with Garry Bird and Armoni Brooks carrying us. Still held out some hope due to the freak athletic gifts and the improvement in the last 20 or so games of his rookie year, though.

Russ is a good comparison point. Russ also has issues with basketball fundamentals and feel for the game. I think he's frankly one of the most overrated players in recent history, but he's been a productive player when he's had the right situation, especially that stretch after the Capela trade. The big difference with Russ and Jalen is Russ is an absolute warrior as a competitor and is built like a mini tank to go with his burst.

Tell it to Steve Francis. It's pretty common in pro sports for high draft picks to force a trade by the team that picked them.

Not up to them to change it, up to Jalen.

    But, I was a Mobley guy so….
