That's not how injury works. If he's not medically cleared then don't play. If he reinjuries himself before it fully heals, time won't fix anything ... it may even cause permanent damage.
ABSOLUTELY NOT!!! Let him heal 100% before he gets back on the floor!!!! Go Rockets!!! ....... ....... .......
Tari Eason got this leg injury in a preseason game and came back to play in the same preseason game. The Rockets treated a preseason game like it was game 7 of the finals. This medical staff's decisions should be evaluated at the end of the season.
Didn't that already happen? Eason came back with a minutes restriction and he couldn't handle it. Putting him out there while he has lingering pain is dangerous for his long-term career.
Well if it is breaking down scar tissue or just managing a little pain that won't do more damage, put him out there. The problem is no one knows what is wrong with him, at least on this side, the play didn't look that bad, so what happened? I mean I am fine with not playing him if he needs more time, but a stress reaction is - not that serious...unless it is a fracture, and even then, it isn't usually 4 months....so what is it? DD
This is worthy of the Billy Madison speech... This team, as improved as they might be, is not challenging for anything but a play-in spot. There is no sense in risking the long term health of one of our potential core players for, at best, a first round exit.
Again, he has all summer to heal....and if it is not something that will heal by October, then wtf is it? DD
I had a partially torn Achilles and I looked just fine but was in pain… 3 surgeries later I’m finally walking just fine but certain movements can cause pain up to 8-10 range. I’m thinking he has something similar and they trying to avoid him having surgery by seeing if it will heal itself with rest
Still no real info on what it is...sigh. What are they imaging? What is the diagnosis? What is the standard time away? Why has he not responded to rest? Is it nerve damage? What? I wonder if someone asked Eason if he would spill it? DD
It sounds exactly like the Kawhi injury. It also sounds like he was getting closer a few weeks ago and had another setback. He's not playing this season and that sucks.
Not a good look for our medical staff--if he needed surgery he should just have gotten it. Feels like this whole thing has just been a clusterf*ck
If you need multiple opinions on a medical case, either it's an complicated and rare case that is extremely diagnose, or the medical staff is incompetent, not knowing what they are doing.
**** take score is 9.4. this is someone who for over 100,000 posts claims to be super knowledgeable about the game. Well it may not make the existing injury worse BUT pain can clearly cause him to overcompensate other parts of his body and this can create other injuries. risking that for what? An extra win or two? Seriously terrible every post.
Yeah. Hard to speculate not knowing the exact nature of the injury, but you have to wonder--if he had gotten surgery immediately when the injury first happened, would he have a chance to be back before the end of the season? As things stand, I seriously doubt he gets back on the court before the end of the season.
I'd guess they thought it would heal on its own. Who knows what exactly the injury is. I guess we will find out soon enough.
We forget that NBA players generally have athleticism that is like in the Top 0.001% of people, if not rarer. On top of, they put they stress their bodies on the court way past the normal stress that any regular athlete much less a person would do. Most likely this is an uncommon complication but because it is affecting someone who has such a rare baseline and uses all of that baseline, it is not an easy thing to completely manage and treat. Medicine is mostly treating using the methods that works well for most people. There are not a lot people with baseline athleticism, size, etc of world class NBA players, so there is just not a lot of examples to know if the same technics/methods will work with them. When you dealing with people who are rare, or edges of the bell curve; you are essentially using best bets. Plus those rare cases for whatever reason don't normally get published or added to the scientific literature. So even someone figured out the perfect way for one player/athlete, that knowledge won't get passed on unless trainers/docs know each other and share info. It would be like a world class professional singer having vocal cord issues. A normal singer much less a normal person would never be under the strain/use and would never be pushing their VC to do what the world class singer is now "expected to do". It is why athletes of this caliber go to the same surgeons/docs etc. because those people see enough of issue to have better data of could/would work. Also because they need to be healed back to 100%, not just to 99.9% back.
