I didn’t hear the arguments live but I think it’s reading far too much into this to say that this means the USSC will rule in Trump’s favor on immunity. This case was far more problematic for a variety of reasons than the immunity case and they are different arguments.
I was mistaken. I meant to write that section 3 will go in Trump's favor and immunity will not. That was my pre-oral argument prediction. Still is.
I was able to listen to a bit of the case and I'm not surprised about the likely outcome. Colorado just didn't put a good case forward because I don't think there was one to be had. I just feel like they jumped the gun considering Trump has not been proven guilty of insurrection.
... and the maga ussc isn't satisfied by overturning the women's choice, but will soon go after gay marriages...
Was Obama a bigot when he opposed gay marriage in his first term as President? Is how now a reformed bigot?
The act of opposing gay marriage was bigoted. The fact that he moved forward since then is good thing.
Even with the Respect for Marriage Act being on the books now, an overturning of Obergefell would put us in a situation similar to where abortion is now: "up to the states" on whether or not to perform same-sex marriages even though federal law says they now have to recognize and confer rights upon marriages performed in other states.
It's called positive progression...like the GOP in reverse. Why do libertarians and republicans get high off hate?
He was wrong before and correct now. Just as trump was correct when he was in favor of gay marriage and opposed now. People change over time, and in Obama's case, change was for the better. In trump's case...
If they commit repeated acts they might be. I don't really know. The important thing is recognizing the act as bigoted and addressing the bigotry.
Is it not possible to change your position on things? I don't know if Obama had a change of heart due to political pressure or re-evaluation of his original stance, but what does it matter? He changed it at the end. By definition, he was a bigot.
It's truly inspiring that bigots like Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama had a vision or moment of clarity looking into the night sky cerca 2008-2012. A real wonder Obamas opened and unabashed bigotry didn't hurt them with the voting public garnering 69,498,516 votes in the 2008 election.
Sure, Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama just had these transcendent moments, in their 40s/50s cerca 2008-2012 where they realized, you know what? I should stop being a bigot. lol ok.
Probably because John McCain and the Republican Party wasn’t for gay marriage either so there wasn’t much of a difference between the parties then.
It’s wild that the same people here clamoring about this and that will be complaining down the road about how they didn’t have a chance to get their Social Security and Medicare when they were the very ones that spurred this me me me bullshit on in the first place. Libertarians and republicans don’t care about children, the elderly, or their fellow citizens…only their wallet.
My understanding is that because marriage is a contract under the constitution states have to recognize legal contracts made in any state. For example service contracts written under CA law being used for software or credit card contracts being written in DE. if Obergfell were overturned states like MN where gay marriage is legal under the state Constitution could still perform them and a state like SD would have to recognize them.
