Anybody in that orbit calling anybody outside of it cruel is laugh out loud funny irony for me.

    Cruelty is their raison d'être.

I don’t think the Trumps are cruel by nature. I think they are greedy, narcissistic, and unempathetic. Cruelty just happens to be a side effect.

Nah, they have a habit of being cruel towards others. You don't say nasty things in public right after a man dies, such as McCain, or make jokes and mockery about a victim of violence like Pelosi's husband on social media like Donald and JR did without some type of cruel mentality. It's one thing to not feel empathy towards others, but it's just cruel to bully or make fun of others when they or their loved ones are suffering or in pain.

this case is definitely going to SCOTUS

Amendment 8 - Excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted.

    Unlikely.

The fine is likely a drop in the bucket for someone worth 10+billions. amirite?

“Excessive” is subjective and this penalty is based on what Trump has claimed his own wealth.

My understanding is that the size of the fine is the calculation of his ill-gotten gains -- the delta between what his loans cost him and what they should have cost him had he been honest with his figures, plus interest. I don't think there is even a punitive adder on the judgement, which makes me think that perhaps the fine is inadequate, not excessive. Maybe in an appeal, his lawyers can shave a couple million off with some different math, but I don't see any Constitutional argument they could make.

    No joke -

It was like when Lavrentiy Baria begged his executioner for mercy after he was responsible for murdering hundreds of thousands, if not million of people and raping thousands of young women.

If you are going to play a cruel game - then don't complain when cruelty finds you.

He can appeal if he wants all the way up to SCOTUS.

However, the law states that in order to appeal he has to put all 450million dollars in an escrow, and if he loses the appeal that immediately gets transferred over to the state.

It's more likely that Trump goes the route of Rudy Guiliani, Alex Jones, etc. by using the bankruptcy court to delay the transfer of assets to pay this judgement. That is unless someone like Elon Musk or Putin or MBS or whatever posts his appeal bail on his behalf.... which of course makes him beholden to whoever posts his appeal amount for him.

This is very very unlikely to get appealed IMO, and it's more than likely Trump files bankruptcy instead with the hopes he can just play the delay game, and make it a little less dramatic when his assets have to get sold off, or if he gets bailed out for a foreigner in the future.

He'll plan on announcing it in a way where he lies and says that he's actually still a multi billionaire, and could pay it. However he's filing bankruptcy just as a formality, and all the great billionaires do it, etc. etc.

Then two weeks later he'll literally just lie and say that he didn't file bankruptcy when he did, and his idiot cult followers will just lie to everyone else that he didn't actually file when he did.

This is Trump, and the Trump cult we are talking about. We've seen this show before.

    -Trump - " I NEVER SETTLE"
-Two weeks later - "Trump settles for 25 million in the Trump University fraud case"

3rd party appellate bonds are not allowed, has to be secured by Trump holdings, and that collateral cannot be encumbered in any way (i.e. having a lien, or used as collateral on an outstanding loan, etc...)

I'm not entirely sure how it legally could get done, but the fact that Jared Kushner was able to get 2 billion dollars loaned to him directly from the Saudi's and the Feds couldn't do anything about an obvious pay to play, doesn't make me feel like there isn't a back door where a foreign oligarch couldn't find a way to have 500 million dollars slide into Trump holdings. I would love to be wrong that there's no way for that to happen of course, but I know there are always loopholes.

I mean the fact that the guy literally spent 50 million dollars of donations from poor Trump supporters on his court cases tells you all you need to know.

I’m going to note yet another irony of “conservatives” who even now complain about coddling criminals with things like no cash bail and prison commutations and vigorously support the death penalty arguing against excessive penalties.

New York courts looking a lot like Putin in attacking political opponents...

Our judicial system was once the gold standard in the world. Now it's used to attack those who the state wants to eliminate. Shame.

These liberals have turned America into a watermelon republic.
