No way they tank. It’s a culture thing.

Thing is... Sarr might not even go in the top 3. That's a realistic possibility. Right now analysts are talking about Risacher as the best talent. A week ago it was Williams. What will it be next week?

Again, none of these guys are really that amazing as prospects. Good chance nobody in this class would have gone in the top 5 of the previous one.

    Isn’t SG their deepest position?

Jsut keep putting your best lineups on the floor. At this point, you don’t even have to tank totabj

Was a Tongue-in-cheek comment. Even in the hypothetical Presti would flip him (not keep him).

I would take the offer and run. Green is not worth a pick in the top 20. Let alone one we could ensure is top 10. Take the pick and get Reed Shepherd to upgrade on Green. Then we still would have another 1st.

Rockets need to scrap for every win. Most of these young players are here for the long haul and if the Rockets want to set the right tone, they have to make winning the only thing that matters or they may end up with a bunch more Jalen's where "every loss is just an opportunity to grow.". That's loser mentality.

They will already have a Top 10 pick in this draft as it is. There is no reason to try and grab another. They will have Fred and Dillon back next year as vets to continue to help set the tone and will need to add a few more. There is already plenty of youth still to develop and I'm pretty sure Jalen will be gone barring a 180 in thought and performance.

    Alperen Sengun (Year 4)
    Jabari Smith Jr. (Year 3)
    Tari Eason (Year 3)
    Amen Thompson (Year 2)
    Cam Whitmore (Year 2)
    2024 Top 10 Pick (Rookie)

Need vets around this core not another pick.

I’ve thought a lot about this for several weeks now; largely fueled by my frustration with the front office doing absolutely nothing at the deadline to demonstrate that they want to win this year. Hey if they don’t care about winning, why should the fans hold out a hope and prayer?

but after looking at the percentages, I’ve come to the conclusion of three things:

1). We aren’t getting north of a 37% chance at a top 4 pick and that’s if we pull the most epic tank ever. It’s far more likely that a tank puts at about 26%. A one in four shot is not great probability.

2). If we tank we only hurt the chances of our guaranteed Brooklyn pick. We could easily swap places in the rankings pushing them back further, reducing the percentage chance of that pick being a top pick

3). Winning is important for our young guys development, team culture and organization reputation. Tanking sends the wrong message about winning. You cant flip the switch next year and expect wins if you are looking to fail this year.

I have concluded tanking is not worth it although I fully respect the OP bringing this issue up for discussion. It’s worth considering given that the front office tanked at the deadline. But finishing up strong would be better heading into another critical offseason. No one wants to play for a loser franchise with a loser mentality…run by losers.

looking at that schedule it looks like we are involuntarily tanking.

I’d like to go young for the remaining games.

    Sengun
    Smith
    Eason
    Cam
    Amen

Let FVV and Brooks mentor while coming off the bench. Try a benching on Green, see what happens.

Stone seems to not be on the same page. He refused to add what we needed to win games this year. Sounds like tanking in disguise

Play to win, but since we won't win it will basically be the same as tanking. Whether we continue to start Jalen or replace him with Cam, that will still be a weakness. FVV's shooting will still be a weakness. Brooks' Brooksiness will be a weakness. Jabari's disappearing acts will still be a weakness. Sengun getting tired or lazy will still be a weakness.

So we will lose regardless of what we are aiming to do. This is like last year when people were arguing whether we should tank or not; it was a pointless argument because "tanking" or not the result would be the same.

Super young teams don't win - ever. Ok, maybe OKC is the exception, but we're nowhere near OKC. They might have 3 different players who would be the best player on our team.

So yeah. Brace yourselves, CF. The days of dumpster fires are returning.

We would have to play .150 or worse to catch Charlotte for the #4.
Cant see us playing THAT bad.

Part of me wonders if Stone and Udoka are on different timelines (I hope we're not suddenly throwing away games hoping for a gift on the Rockets' pick in the Draft Lottery: "And that means the Rockets' pick moves into the top 3 and will not convey to the Thunder, tough titty, Oklahoma City").

Another part wonders if Stone is begging patience until the summer when they'll know where they'll pick in this draft with the Brooklyn (our) pick and will have another future first not owed to OKC to add to the ammunition pile. And so go after....well, player(s) to be named later (on the Atlanta Hawks roster, for example).

We aren't going to tank. This season was about establishing a winning/competitive culture, and hopefully making the play-in with good health.

Now, we may keep sucking, but not intentionally.

Of course he isn't a 6th man ... He got outplayed by Nate Hinton.

That makes him a 16th man.
