Astros traded with Padres for Oliver Carrillo. They gave up International bonus money seems like it could be a decent pickup by Dana. https://www.si.com/mlb/padres/news/padres-to-trade-outfielder-to-houston-astros-report-nc2000
After reading this several times, I realize we agree. Of course now we have to question the level of the competition as well. Was he really playing against high schoolers?
Rather go get Montgomery. He isn’t the “dominant ace” that Snell can be, but much more consistent. Snell always seems to be riding on that line of implosion
I felt we were one SP short last Spring Training, and we are again one SP short. Do not make the same mistake twice. This staff needs depth and lots of it.
Except Charlie has Killer Instinct. Snell strikes me as a guy who will fold in high pressure situations in the playoffs. Dude has had a stellar resume, but has NEVER pitched in High Leverage before when it really counts. Imagine all the heart attacks we'd have with him walking the bases loaded one or two innings in a Game 7, and have to work himself out of it. Lol.
Think we’re overreacting to the JV news if we’re suggesting that we now need to go get a guy like Snell or Montgomery. He says it happened back a while ago in the off-season when he started throwing. It’s resolved itself. I would think the worst case scenario is that he misses the first 2-3 starts. Anytime pitchers have talked about possibly not being built up in time for Opening Day it seems they miss a max of like 3-4 starts. IMO that’s not reason enough to go get someone like Snell or Montgomery. Although I’d be 100% on board with spending the money to get one of those guys. Would give us that much stronger of a rotation.
