You didn't surprise for 42 people (so far) graded Udoka A/A- but laughed for 4 persons' A/A- grade for Jalen? 4 trolls versus 42. Still minority.
Green has done great in my opinion despite not having help on offense. Next year will be his breakout year, he is putting things together and playing better every game...
28 ppg sounds about right..... Jalen Green is a future all star no doubt, this was a bad year for him and he still averaging 18 ppg and just turned 22.....
Coaching issues. He had no double-double for two and a half years and no one bothered. He is more capable than that.
I’ll go C+ thus far but with an opportunity to raise it to a B+ if his scoring continues to improve. I’ll be very specific: he’s improved offensively slightly from the first 30 games and I want to see double that improvement after the ASB. I can’t imagine they won’t trade him in the summer if he doesn’t do that. I think that’s Stone’s deal with Ime. Important to mention he’s made significant strides on defense, passing and off-ball effort. Defense is half the game and actually it was his worst half. In terms of becoming a winning player (points impacting wins) this is really important and if he had had a great offensive season but his defense didn’t improve, I would have graded it only a B-. I know that most of you all would have graded him higher than that but it’s not how basketball works. There’s a reason we can be a top 5 defense with Green starting on a team without an elite rim protector. He’s doing his part there and it’s totally out of the ordinary for a player who played league-worst defense his first two seasons to significantly improve over half a season. He’s still not a very good defender but going from league worst to below average is a big win for us.
I really don’t think it’s so much mechanics issue (though he can improve there). It’s all mental and choice. Here’s why I think that: On wide open threes, he’s 28% on 1 attempt. On open threes, he’s 39% on 3.3 attempts. On tight and very tight 3’s, I can’t remember but he’s garbage and takes around 2 per game. This doesn’t make any sense. Why is he shooting worse when he’s wide open (6+ feet) than when he’s less open (4-6 feet)? I think his 3’s when he’s ultra wide open are either those end of clock heaves or those idiotic 27 foot 3pters he attempts. This is a shot selection issue. On tight and very tight 3’s these are those maddening step back and fade away 3’s. He should not take these anymore if he wants to keep starting. He’s just not good enough at those and it’s not close. I recommend they literally forbid him from taking these till he’s worked on them in the summer. IMO these are shot selection issues. Most of his 3’s are when he has 4-6 feet of space (I.e. open) and he makes 39%. The rest of the attempts are bad shot selection. If he passed off on half of those bad shots (cutting out 2 3pters overall) we would have a 36% shooter on almost 5 attempts. He’d probably have an extra assist too. We would be ecstatic with that at this point. One final tactical note: we take the fewest corner 3pters in the NBA and Green is actually excellent from there (44%). We can replace those two reduced 3pters with corner 3 attempts. This would be excellent because a lot of our problem is Jalen is not helping FVV-Sengun do their thing. He’s not a great shooter above the break so he’s killing spacing over there. For just a few possessions a game we can stick him in that corner where it will help Jalen’s efficiency while helping FVV-Sengun. This is more on Udoka than Jalen to take advantage of this opportunity.
C for Crap.. But sometimes C for Cool.. *yeah he’s really inconsistent and the improvement is not good..
Not how it works....they come to you when you give them an F or D- because only then a danger to flunk the class.
I am surprised that we have to grade half the people in the last 2 days. Teachers get salaries for grading.
He’s putting up numbers but still doesn’t contribute to winning basketball. His advanced stats are still poor. He has talent but I don’t know if he has the mind to be a winning player.
I gave him a C. His jumper was quite effective at times last season. The deterioration is quite strange.
Lol I do not even want to know how many times Porter Junior was in Detention....but in other news he threw stuff and left detention room.
