It appears Trae Young may be available this summer. I’m aware of all of the reasons that we wouldn’t want to do it, and I’m not real high on it, but what would the cost be? FVV + Jalen works salary wise, but would the 2026 BKN pick and maybe a smattering of seconds be enough to get it over the finish line?
I doubt Atlanta would accept that - FVV, Green and Brooklyn 26. They can get more elsewhere. Young is a Hard No for me though. I want no part of him on my team. He's a chucker.
I really, really don't like Trae Young. He doesn't play defense, isn't all that efficient, and has a punchable face With all of that said... I do think he would be a pretty good fit on offense with Sengun. Their PnRs would be deadly. I just question whether it's worth giving up serious assets as opposed to just developing the players we've already got. I suppose there's a price at which I'd pull the trigger. Probably not as much as other teams would pay though.
Green+FVV+2028 Rockets FRP and 2027 Rockets /Nets pick top 8 protected. Sengun/Clingnan Smith Eason/Brooks Young/Whitmore Amen/Younng
Young combined with Sengun would give Ime heart failure Young hasn’t been able to do anything with decent enough players around him his whole career, his team is always struggling to make the playoffs. Pass Trade Jalen in the off-season, bring in a guy like Brogdon and stay flexible
There are better shooters with better defense. I'm not worried about adding playmaking. Would he play off the ball with Amen? Just give me an OG /Bridges type player... like a better Dillon Brooks. What would be interesting... If Amen is ready, drop FVV and pickup Paul George in the offseason... Thompson George Eason Smith Sengun Bench: Whitmore Brooks Brooklyn Pick Good mix of defense and shooting...
I’m really not a fan either, but he is definitely in the superstar realm. Just trying to gauge what it would take for the Rockets to bring someone at that level in. I’m sure some team will send out a ton of picks, but not sure if they could get back the win-now players that the Rockets have (and the Hawks appear to constantly work as though they are in win-now mode). Young’s lack of defense and coach-killer/team cancer reputation certainly limit what I would be willing to offer. Just curious how everyone thought the proposed trade stacked up to his current market, or what he would ultimately bring.
What the hell are we waiting for? Sign Joe Harris already before someone else does. Don’t we need 3 point shooting?
At the age of 25 he's been the clear cut best player on 3 playoff teams and one that went to the ECF, where he got hurt. That's not bad at all. He also hasn't played along side a true all star/all team NBA players. That being said I think I agree that I would pass on Young, only because my eyes are set to bigger and better things and I don't think we're in a position where trading all of our "star package" assets for Trae would really turn us into contenders or turn us into a team that can keep improving the roster to become contenders with him taking 30% of the cap. Sengun/Bari/Brooks/Amen/Young/Tari/Cam would absolutely get us into the playoffs while still having upside potential though. That's a nice blend of shooting/defense/play making but not enough to get super excited about. I'd guess the max level of that team in a few years is better than Kings but still not top seed.
On Trae Young, he may be the best star available next year. On offense, he would be magical with Sengun. Smith and Cam would be good fits. Trae's defense is about as good as Green's, but Trae's offense likely allows the Rockets to play three of Smith, Tari, Brooks, and Amen (i.e., Trae and Amen is likely an upgrade defensively over FVV and Green in the starting lineup). Jalen and Jeff Green, Landale, Tate should be enough salary to match. I think 4 FRPs and 3 swaps should be enough to get him if not too much, but other teams could match that or exceed it in OKC's case. Starting Lineup Sengun Smith Tari or Brooks Amen Trae Backups Adams Cam Brooks or Tari 2024 BKN pick FVV I think that lineup would kill in the regular season. Big weakness would be against teams with PFs that are still too big for Smith to handle, but PFs too quick for the Rockets to go Adams and Sengun. If the Rockets get to keep their pick this year...
I think you forgot that we would need to give up some assets to get Trae! Ie, just Jalen isn't enough... FVV might be required for salary match - but I doubt Atlanta want a 40M PG if they are handing the keys to Murray. Personally I think Trae isn't very available. It is posturing to get someone to overbid on Murray...
You don't think perhaps he is waiting to see what the top 4 teams in either conference have to say? Everyone is looking for a shooter like Harris...
Yeah... LOL! I can't read... I didn't see that part of it. I'll blame my old eyes. Either way, I wouldn't trade for him, I don't like the fit with Alpy (on either end)
I'm with it but Whitmore and Eason are solid 3 pt shooters and should bring those numbers up once they are both back in the rotation.
It’s trades or bust this offseason. Making no trade at the deadline means Stone will be picking up the options on Tate and Landale in order to facilitate trades this summer or throughout next season. Not picking up their options would only give us around $13m to work with, so going the trade route is probably the best option (if he would actually do something).
