Putin is very competent and intelligent. Our overall leadership has been lacking since Obama. The trouble with Putin is that he is still living in the 60's and thinks the deep state controls the world. If feel more comfortable believing the deep state controls the world than random chaos, however I believe the latter is correct.
Putin took Russia into a war that has killed tens of thousands of Russian soldiers. It’s exposed Russia as a second rate military while also leading massive economic disruption along with a brain drain as the best and brightest try to leave Russia. Under Putin Russian life expectancy has declined and corruption has continued to run rampant. I would hardly call that competent. It’s rather odd too to believe that an autocrat who is head of state with a powerful surveillance and security apparatus believes in the deep state is out to get him. He is the deep state.
Lots of countries are struggling right now. Look at Germany. Russia has always struggled. We could get into a long discussion on the whys, but its certainly not just because of Put. It dates centuries. Putin is KGB. He IS the deep state. I did not imply he believes the deep state is out to get him. He believes the deep state controls the world and he believes he is part of it. He believes the CIA and others control the decisions the US makes. Its delusional sure. But nothing about Putin suggests he is unhinged and a psychopath. His delusional views has a very negative outcome for his country. But he isn't an idiot.
Yes Russia has historical struggles but ten years ago Russia was hosting the Olympics was integrated in the global economy and military was both feared and respected. Russia is under heavy sanctions with much to the world considering it a Pariah state. The Russian military has been exposed for being vastly inferior to other modern militaries, unable to defeat a greatly numerically inferior force that for much of this conflict fought with the same weapons as them. Yes Germany is having problems it’s laughable to say that Germany’s situation is remotely as bad as Russia. Thank you for clarifying but living in paranoia in outdated thinking is almost the opposite of competence.

This is not surprising. Trump is still the same man who in 2016 called for Russia to hack his political opponents, he’s the same man who said in 2017 he believes Putin more than the US intel services, he’s the same man who was desperately pursuing a deal for a Trump tower in Moscow for years.

one of the other bizarre phenomenons of trump is how he was able to get the party of reagan to turn into the pro-russia/pro-putin party. you never heard any republicans talking like space ghost before trump. he turned them against the bushes, who are now persona non-grata in the GOP. he turned the party of free-market capitalism into the pro-protectionist trade policy/pro-tariff party. he turned the pro-military party into the party that mocks people for their service and believes that POWs are not war heroes because they were captured. right-wingers talk about "trump derangement syndrome" all the time, but the ones who are deranged are conservatives and christians who have flipped on their core values in order to be a cult-member for trump.
