Do you even know what a true superstar looks like? At this point. But yeah, people should overreact when it is necessary but not go too violent IMO.
Oh I thought I have to be missing your point, but your point actually is that stars/superstars never have bad games against bad teams when they were 21 years old. Ok man, I hope we get such a star in this Houston team. If that is our standard it will be really tough, but I would definitely love that to happen. Afterall the league is abundant with 21 year old talents who meet your criteria.
Replacing Fred with Amen no one respects the Rockets outside shooting. They just collapse the paint to prevent Alpi from driving. Every drive he has 3 defenders on him. If no one is making shots nothing will change. If we truly want him to be successfuly we need to get some knock down shooters because right now defense are all just daring us to make outside shots.
I do not think venting after a bad loss is necessarily a bad thing....that was more of what you define as point. Players redeem themselves with a bounce back game. Fans vent.....that is what they do. The Superstar part, I am not sure Ime Udoka is the developing coach for a superstar........unless it is generational talent like Wemby....I do not see one yet. There is hope Cam Whitmore can at least make perennial All Star level. A lot of work ahead.
After a long string of mostly home games, we began a string of mostly road games. And since we SUCK on the road, we're losing most of them. This recent bad play is only a shock to those who haven't been paying attention.
I actually would say that Silas Şengün always played with much more energy and creativity. I don't think that defenses collapsing in the paint explaines everything. This is the third time, where he heavily struggled in matchups he dominated before (Claxton, JV and now Pöltl). There is something going on that is affecting his motivation and confidence. Either an undisclosed injury, personal stuff or issues with team chemistry or coaching.
Alpi played terrible but are there any games ,expect the one against the Grizz, that we were able to win because Alpi was benched in the 4th?
Feels like Sengun has been sleepwalking to begin games more and more often. Is it the All-Star reserve snub? I don't see the same fire and urgency he had at the beginning of the season.
Very interested to see how/if Alpi will respond in the next game. Looking at his splits, he actually plays very well in b2b games.
I've been concerned the high usage would wear Alpi down as the season dragged on. The ASB should help refresh him. I don't expect this to happen in future seasons.
I think hes just gassed. He has been playing a lot more minutes this year with a much higher usage rate. He's hit the proverbial wall. The all-star break should do wonders to get him recharged.
Next year will be very telling for him, will he take the next step after taking a big step this year. There's not much he can do from here on out that would change my opinion on him for this season. Hes been amazing and is the closest guy we have to being worthy of a max deal. Given his age and trajectory so far, he's where a future superstar should be. But he still hasn't proven that he's that guy yet. He still screws up a lot and has shortcomings. His overall focus and effort comes and goes.
It is not his offense, his attention and effort on defense are sporadic, he can be a good defender but he seems to rest there sometimes and get burned because of it. He just sort of slacks off from time to time on D, and one thing everyone can control is effort, he needs to bring it on both ends. DD
He has been listed with some kind of flu or mysterious illness and then he still shows up and plays.....not on injury list.
Sengun has been playing bad defense lately and it’s not Silas fault. I know he is upset because he was not selected to be a ALL STAR but he is not there yet….getting close. He need to regroup and start working with Amen and Cam.
This is from yesterday's game. I suspect that he has been playing with back problems since that play against Lebron where he injured his back. And this is not only the Sengunatic in me speaking but Alpi is completely irreplaceable. With FVV out, you at least have the benefit of Amen getting more minutes. But if Sengun is out, you have Jock and former Supersonic Jeff Green.
I remember folks who were fans of Memphis back when they had Pau Gasol earlier in his career had a lot of similar ongoing concerns about him being able to anchor a defense at the 5. The later in his career with the Lakers it sort of flip flopped and there was always frustration that he wasn’t assertive enough offensively. I think it’s possible that Sengun, while he’s going to most likely be an “All star caliber player” is going to always have some major flaws that frustrate the hell out of you, but there’s no question he’s a core piece of your team. I think it’s just about trying to match him up with the right complimentary stars. Easier said than done with finding Sengun a Kobe type because there’s no Kobe Bryant top 20 player of all time just waiting to come to the Rockets. So I still think despite flaws that aren’t going away, Sengun is a part of the franchise core moving forward and should be a central part of the offense… However it’s obvious that he’s not a 1A superstar that can carry a team on his back with just role players. Like young Gasol, his defensive flaws just are too much to overcome without a superstar taking the load off so he can be a bit more focused on the other end like Gasol was when he went to the Lakers.
