I get on a surface level why someone would vote for Stefanski over Demeco. If you look at them losing their big money QB and still winning as many games as they did. But to delve just a little deeper than that you realize the Browns had far more talent than the Texans did, and only got a little more regular season success. I wonder if Demeco losing to Stefanski head-to-head was the tie breaker for some voters.
No joke! That is such a crock. DeMeco led us from 3 wins last year to 10 wins this year. The Browns went from 7 wins to 11 wins. Sure, the Browns had QB issues, but our whole team was an injury train on offense and defense, and DeMeco had to switch things up, and insert different players on a weekly basis.
Go one step further - The Texans had won only 11 games the three preceding years and he almost won that many in his first year. The other wrinkle I think they missed is Stefanski did a great job with Flacco but it wasn’t like he had all four of their QBs playing like late season Flacco. They won many games because of that incredible defense and the DPOY. Lastly, not only did we win 10 games, but we principally did it with rookies leading the way vs Cleveland doing it with vets. Ryans and CJ also go in the books as the only rookie and rookie head coach to ever win their division. Ever. NFL history there.
My beef is 7 of the 50 voters left him off their ballot completely. There is NO reason for that and those voters should be replaced immediately.
That entire 1995 playoff run is burned into my childhood as a core memory. It's practically integral to who I am as a person. Don't ever underestimate the heart of a champion.
Yep, now I'm watching your highlight clip for the 3rd time "I thought I defended him pretty well" was not a lie by Robinson
That presser by Robinson is one of the best off the court highlights in nba history. The humility to sit there in front of God and all creation as the mvp chosen by your peers and say that you did your absolute level best but that the person you are competing against transcends "best"... That's a level of character not seen in professional sports very often.
Robinson was always classy. I never had any reason to dislike him. Tracy Murray nailed it: "They never should have given him that trophy before the series started"
IMO, Stefanski was voted COY over Demeco because of the Jets debacle and because the Browns destroyed the Texans two weeks later. If the vote was taken after the playoffs, Demeco would win in a landslide.
That's what has always been so incredible about that series. He DID defend him pretty well...and STILL got decimated. Nobody will ever convince me that the Rockets '95 playoff run isn't the greatest ever.
The fact Demeco lost (tied, effectively) by 1 vote after all that tells you everything you need to know. We all know who the coach of the year actually is.
