It's kind of mind blowing to me. I had heard somebody on a podcast at some point saying Hayes has settled into a solid defensive minded back up point guard at one point. I don't watch him enough to know. I was surprised they flat out waived him. To be the lottery pick getting waived on the worst team in the league that needs to build upon the hopes of a young guy breaking out - just wow. He must be awful, or Detroit must be awful at evaluating talent. Or both. Probably both.
Feels like a guy the Spurs should pick up and try to fix--can't imagine a worse situation than playing for Detroit for the past four years. We shouldn't touch him with a ten foot pole though.
To have the #7 pick and get nothing for it ... ouch. I guess the moral to the story is trade the guy while he's worth something.
