sengun is not dirk. hes a very good player who could just as easily be a sixth man. If one day he starts shooting like dirk, hell be a franchise player. yes he can get you points against bad teams, against mediocre teams, but in the playoffs wed likely get swept with him at center. Cam, amen, and yes, jalen, have a lot of potential, so lets just watch and enjoy the growth and see who pans out.
That’s what people don’t understand - players used to stay 3-4 years in college , we would see these growing pains (in college) vs in the NBA … it’s the only reason I would love with the NIL they make players stay atleast 3 years in college to better develop … drafting kids to play against grown men is a crap shoot
Hopefully we draft a college player this year in the first round, and stop drafting teens to teach basic skills to for years like Jalen.
dude... we put waaaaaaaaaaaay too much time and effort into kpj.... c'mon... he was the 'head honcho' - lol!
At the age you would be drafting them in the old days, you are now having to decide if you want to commit $200m to them.
Fan is short for fanatic and yes it comes with typical impatience, overhype, underrating and knee-jerk reactions after wins or losses. So yes, this team is actually on pace and doing well for the rebuild. Everything after that is great, but if you expect that, IMO that is expecting too much, and you need to give them seasons to continue to develop. Many rebuilds take years, some even decades, Sacramento, New York Knicks, Minnesota's history, Denver before Jokic. Here is an old 2017 article of historical NBA rebuilds from the Bulls Athletic writer highlights/summary: Athletic Article: History of rebuilding shows a long path ahead for the Bulls (2017): The nightmare scenarios Minnesota Timberwolves: 13 year playoff drought Sacramento Kings: 11 year playoff drought Phoenix Suns: 7 year playoff drought "The record for longest postseason drought in NBA history is held by the Los Angeles Clippers, who went 15 years from the 1977 through 1991 seasons without sniffing the playoffs. Donald Sterling bought the franchise in 1982 during the beginning of that streak and ran the team’s culture into the ground. The Kings and Suns have also been plagued by impatient ownership groups that have pressured their general managers into some bad win-now decisions that have only ended up setting them back farther. While there are a lot of criticisms of the Reinsdorf family’s ownership of the Bulls, give them credit for not destructively meddling. The Wolves, Kings and Suns show just how scary rebuilding can be. Even if you hit on some talent, it might still be a long wait. The Wolves drafted a decent core of Kevin Love and Ricky Rubio, the Kings had DeMarcus Cousins, and the Suns acquired Goran Dragic and, more recently, drafted Devin Booker. Those players alone weren’t enough to carry their teams to playoff berths. Aimless rebuilds Orlando Magic: 5 year playoff drought New York Knicks: 4 year playoff drought ... Both franchises show that if you don’t hit on a string of picks for a few years in a row, your rebuilding project can get stuck in the mud. Promising situations Denver Nuggets: 4 year playoff drought Philadelphia 76ers: 5 year playoff drought The Nuggets and Sixers have taken patient approaches to rebuilding and drafted well. ... Even with a solid approach, it’s taken a long time for them to get to this point. They both stand a reasonable chance to end their playoff droughts this season, but they show the benefits of not rushing a rebuild." https://theathletic.com/76917/2017/...ilding-shows-a-long-path-ahead-for-the-bulls/
We were tanking and the team lacked talent. It's not like we had all these franchise pg chilling on the bench if KPJ wasn't playing it was Daishen Nix so I dunno why him being the starter is a big deal. People here just like to over react and make mountains out of molehills. And to be fair to KPJ while he wasn't franchise material he was actually serviceable and would have been better than Reggie Bullock.
Thanks for this. Just shows most posters here complain without knowing anything and think after 3 yrs you should be a contender already. Stone is really fortunate he hit on most of his picks and that enabled the Rox to build their foundation pretty quickly. He was also able to amass multiple picks in a year and hit on those too.
Great context - thanks for adding. I think one important nuance here though is not all rebuilds start from the same place. There is the rebuild we are having - one year we were fighting for the playoffs, the next we were in the lotto BUT we had traded our stars/role players for a bunch of draft capital to expedite the rebuild. I think this is why expectations are different than many of the teams in the list above. I think OKC had a similar approach with one key difference - they "hit" on trading for a potential future MVP in SGA. From our POV, it doesn't look like we have "hit" on the same type of player so far. ...and then there is the type of rebuild Golden State is about to go through where short sided decisions lead to a team of stars slowly slipping into irrelevancy until they finally end up in the lotto. They need talent in the worst kind of way but Steph nearly guarantees they will not be bad enough to get a high lotto swing and would they ever really trade Steph and otherwise, who is trading for Draymond or Klay?...or the type of rebuild Brooklyn is currently stuck in where the Durant/Harden/Kyrie thing didn't work out but now they lack control of key draft picks because they traded them away while chasing a ring so even if they ARE very bad, they have lower odds to draft a potential game changing player from that. I think we are fortunate we are not in those positions.
It's not a popular opinion but I agree 100% that Sengun needs to improve his shooting dramatically otherwise he is not going to be good enough to carry us in a series. He COULD be the guy, but he still has a lot of work to do in order to get to anything resembling a Jokic like leader of a team.....AND we need a top level guard bucket getter to pair with Sengun for that to work similar to Murray in Denver. Cam could very well be that guy - maybe even Jalen but Sengun will never reach his potential if he doesn't have a somewhat elite wing/guard bucket getter who forces teams to double them too because otherwise guarding the Rockets will be as easy as doubling Sengun in the post and sagging everyone off of our poor outside shooters and that team will NOT score well enough consistently to stay in games.
Fan comes from fanatic but this term has weakened and got nuance to it over time....... A fairweather fan or a casual fan is also called just another fan......
I was kinda ok with not making the play-in but now that it looks like making it would probably be at the expense of either the Warriors or Lakers, I'm a lot more eager.
Great find! And it further shows that my analysis maybe correct in that we are expecting too much too soon. I think they can use.more rim protection and shooting but what will that get us at this point 3, 4 or 5 more wins? I just think we need to give this group two more yrs, before we start criticizing what they can and can not offer
I feel you on that! But at the same time none of our players are generational talents, they are just good young players. And even FVV and DB were just role players on their previous teams. If we had a Wemby, LeBron or someone along those lines, I would be highly pissed but I don't see one player as of now, that I would consider the franchise or a franchise player.
u don’t need generational talents to be the 10th seed and get a play-in game after multiple years of high picks, significantly upgrading at coach, and spending 60+ mil in free agency
Yep, we tanked 3 years for nothing if none of our guys pan out to be a future top 5 player. Wembeyama was the only clear generational player in the last 3 drafts. It's sad but Rockets fans don't want to admit the truth and neither do I because truth hurts and it's depressing to think about. So just hope the team makes a couple playoffs and in another decade, we'll probably have to rebuild again.
All you need to know is this: there are two special lockers in the Rockets locker room and they were given to KPJ and Green. They were anointed undeservedly, that's a fact. On the other question: no, I don't think Amen and Jabari are worth the total garbage and dysfunction that was the Houston Rockets. Nothing against them, they are fine talents, but absolutely not worth it. Given that we would most likely still would have gotten good picks, the delta between someone like Amen and, say Ausar or Lively or Hawkins, for example, was not worth it. Not to mention that there was a major talent at #20 that we would have gotten anyway...
