So what is "misleading" about it? This reminds me of the "fact checkers" who will claim actual facts are "misleading" when they do not support their narrative.

Are you disputing the numbers? To me, the numbers seem to indicate that illegal immigration went way up between 1998 and 2018. Or are you claiming that the numbers are only up because in 2018, there was more enforcement? And if so, do you oppose that?

90% of federal arrest for non-citizens are for breaking immigration laws, not violent crimes like murder, rape, ...

"In 2018, 85% of federal arrests of non-U.S. citizens were for immigration offenses, and another 5% of arrests were immigration-related."

    So this:

There are 11-12 million undocumented individuals here. Technically, they are all in violation of US immigration laws. Over the past decade or so, the majority of new undocumented individuals are here due to visa overstays. While they are breaking immigration laws, they aren't violent criminals or committing other crimes. Certainly not at a higher rate than US citizens, as the Trump DOJ report might mislead one to think.

I'm confused. You keep using the woke term 'undocumented' but then in the same sentence claim a majority are people overstaying their visa. If they have a visa, are they not documented?

That is right up there with calling every black person African American.

    @basso
These Jeremy Lin fans that question your ‘side’ don’t understand what independent thought means

you choose whomever you want , it’s your vote
Since you are a legal citizen of America and not some fat person in Canada

if they want to brag about how blue they are, @FranchiseBlade let them go to Watts in LA dressed up in baby blue .
    See what happens

Undocumented is often used interchangeably with illegal. If you prefer not to use undocumented, then use illegal.

They entered the US legally but overstayed their visa, subsequently becoming undocumented/illegal.

You are confused. While calling every black person African American is a gross simplification or generalization, "undocumented" is often used in reference to folks here without legal paperwork to stay, which some prefer to call "illegal".

    Reference: https://www.law.cornell.edu/wex/undocumented_immigrant
Undocumented immigrants are individuals who have either illegally entered the United States without inspection, or legally entered the United States with valid nonimmigrant visas but those visas have expired.

ps. as you can see, undocumented is a legal term. It's not a woke term, another confusion on your part.

What you are taking about here is exactly what you are doing. The facts don't support your narrative. Amiga has patiently explained the situation. You should thank @Amiga for the lesson being taught and move on from this.

They are breaking the law, but they aren't engaged in real criminal activity.

I guess the real point is, why don't we just want the vast majority of illegal immigrants in this country to become legal if they aren't committing other crimes and are working? It is nice to say come and do it the right way, but the right way is often unrealistic. Massive immigration reform needs to happen.

Just the fact he used "woke" suggests he is simply using maga terminology to explain his political leanings. Oh wait... he also says he isn't a trump supporter.

Well in his defense coming from MAGA world, legal/rule of law is sort of a "Woke" thing anyways. Keep in mind they are supporting a guy who is literally running to become a dictator so yeah. I don't think they are confused when they conflate "Woke" with Legal/Rule of Law.

He also said that he cannot wait for Donald Trump to win the presidency again the day that Joe Biden announced his run for re-election. But yeah... totally not a Trump supporter... even though he literally says he supports Donald Trump.

His rebuttal to this though is that it's not that he actually is a Trump supporter or Republican. He just really really hates Democrats. So because in his mind he has justification, it's expected on our end that we recognize his plight in life, show empathy for his hatred of Democrats, and accept that he actually is an independent intellectual that we should gravel at as a moral authority in life, and politics.

Just a normal respectable Independent intellectual.
