So I finally went today and took a Porsche Taycan 4S Cross Turismo for a test drive, as well as a Cayenne Hybrid Turbo S.

Both are nice cars, and I usually like sitting a bit higher, so that would speak in favour of the SUV.

I drove there in my Tesla Model Y Performance, and it was a bit odd to drive a Porsche that accelerates a little less fast than the Tesla.

The Cayenne did have ipad-like screens on the back of the front seats, which my children would have of course loved...

In the end, I decided that I do want to stay fully electric, but that I do want the fastest option available. So I went ahead and called a Porsche Dealer in LA that had the exact configuration I wanted in a used car - Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo Turbo S, exactly the colours I wanted, and only two years old...got it for like 80k less than the original MSRP. Fewer than 10k miles on the car, 2 years old. Certified, clean carfax, etc. They will arrange for it to be shipped across the country.

I hope people buy these. Or else Toyota with their hybrid strategy is going to be laughing all the way to the bank.

And how many of those are "non-premium" EVs? Most of those are going to be overpriced, premium EV's from the looks of it. And some of the non-premium EVs aren't ones the average person or family are going to necessarily buy like Brightdrop, VinFast, $70,000 electric pickups and Jeeps.

They need to start bringing out more stuff closer to $25-$35k to stoke demand (maybe).

Average new car price is over 48K. at these interest rates....how are people affording these cars??

there's such a disconnect now between what the buyers are looking for vs. what the govt wants you to buy vs. what manufacturers are making..

New HD diesel is about $75K, which is absolutely ridiculous for a pickup

Yeah, I'm not sure, but I'm guessing it's probably $30-$40k, but I could be wrong. And that's just new cars, not used ones. Even a Honda Accord or Toyota Camry starts at $26-28k and up to around $38k for their highest trims (not including any upgrades) before any negotiation that may or may not bring prices down.

A lot of people are buying used cars not wanting to have to spend the money for new, so a lot of these new EV's are non-starters for them even before you start the ICE vs EV or whatever else debates.

    They aren't.

The AVERAGE age of a passenger car in the USA on the road is 12.5 years.

I think the big range upgrade was for the 2025 models.
