Again the Trump administration themselves said they needed Congressional help to secure the border. If the President could constitutionally curb illegal immigration without a change in the law don’t you think that Trump would’ve done it?

Also you’re the biggest ( or at least the one who post the most) supottet of Israel here. You do know that one of the things tied to this bill is aid to Israel because it was felt aid to Israel might not pass without more changes to the US border.

So you have a bill that not only changes
Immigration law, adds more border security, gives aid to Ukraine and Israel yet Republicans won’t vote for it.

I don't mind the result (help for Israel and Ukraine), I am just trying to understand why existing laws would not allow to curb illegal immigration better than what is happening.

Some people are arguing that more illegal immigration is something that is desired by one political party, because they allegedly think that will mean more votes for them. I don't know that that is true.

It’s been stated several times in this thread existing laws regarding asylum allow for people coming here to ask for asylum. Further Congress controls the power of the purse and increase in funding has to start in the House and pass Congress. This is why Trump couldn’t just build a wall or shut down the border.

It’s not. As you know even legal
Immigrants cannot vote until they get citizenship. Further it’s not just Democrats that want more immigrants because many Republican business owners do to and many of those businesses hire immigrant labor. In fact Trump businesses have taken advantage of programs bringing in immigrant labor
And have even been cited for hiring illegal
    Immigrants.

Deja Vu, with the only difference being that Trump is openly politicking, directing traffic to kill immigration reform.

It's kind of "normal" that people try to come to a country where they expect a better life for themselves and their families.

But it seems to me that the case used to be that people came to Western countries to achieve the goal of a better life for their families through hard work, within the laws and rules of the country they were immigrating into. "The American Dream"/"From dishwasher to millionaire", etc. Even those who illegally crossed the border from Mexico to the US would usually end up working in manual labor jobs, and after years of hard work, their status would eventually change to being legal.

When I look at what is happening now with immigration into countries like Germany and the US, I see a lot of military age men illegally crossing the border without any families or anything, and a lot of immigration straight into the welfare system, often with no intention whatsoever to actually work. And these people don't come from Mexico or Latin America, but there is a lot of immigration from countries and ideological backgrounds where the majority of the population is openly hostile towards America.

When you look at crime statistics, you will undoubtedly find that these types of illegal immigrants end up being overrepresented in them.

Do you not find that concerning?

Illegals do the least amount of crime than any other demo. In just Texas us citizens did violent crime at a rate of 2.5x. Property crime us citizens did it more than 4x than illegals

Illegals always do less crime than us citizens and its not even close

Most immigrants legal or illegal work very hard. Go to any restaurant, construction site are farm in FL, TX, even MN and you’re likely to find a lot of immigrants working those jobs. Most stats show that immigrants of any legal status commit less violent crimes than American citizens. Many are themselves victims of crimes.

This thing about “men of military age” is a red herring because those are also men in the prime of their working age and in fact most of those construction and farm workers will also happen to be “men of military age”.

In the US the opposite is true. Illegal immigrants have a lower crime rate than US citizens. Legal immigrants have even less.

What is concerning is that so many people have been fooled into believing the narrative you are spreading.

Also this thing about “single men of military age” is even more ironic when much of US history the US only wanted young single men. Chinese were not allowed to bring women into the country in the 19th Century. Many criticized the Irish sending widows and orphans who they felt would be a burden.

Even now there are many including Trump who want to end family migration while they also deliberately separated children from their
    Families at the border.

For many years, leftists in Germany propagated the lie that crime rates of immigrants weren't higher than those of non-immigrants. I briefly worked in the justice system in Germany and everyone who did knew this was a lie.

Maybe that is different in the US historically, based on the majority of illegal immigrants being Mexicans/Latin Americans who just wanted to work hard and have a better life. Maybe their crime rates were lower, as you say.

But I think it depends on which stats you look at.

    https://bjs.ojp.gov/content/pub/pdf/icfjs9818.pdf

In 1998, 63% of all federal arrests were of U.S. citizens; in 2018, 64% of all federal arrests were of non-U.S. citizens despite them comprising only 7 % of the population at the time.

And with the demographics of illegal immigrants having changed drastically towards more of these immigrants coming from countries and an ideology where anti-American sentiment and anti-Jewish sentiment run rampant, the crime rate percentages might shift, like they did in Germany where we already had a lot more of these types of "cultural enrichers", historically.

That was from the DoJ under the Trump's administration. It's misleading.

    https://lawprofessors.typepad.com/immigration/2019/08/federal-arrests-of-noncitizens-triple.html

A report from the Bureau of Justice Statistics shows that arrests of non-U.S. citizens have more than tripled over the last two decades, mostly driven by increases in immigration enforcement.

More specifially, the report shows that 64 percent of all federal arrests last year were of non-U.S. citizens, up from 37 percent in 1998. "In 2018, 85% of federal arrests of non-U.S. citizens were for immigration offenses, and another 5% of arrests were immigration-related."

While Trump administrative policies are certainly part of the story, the report's findings show those increases are attributable to enhanced immigration enforcement in the later years of President George W. Bush's administration and throughout the Obama administration as well.

In the release of the report, the Department of Justice touted the report in a press release this week from the Office of Justice Programs, focusing on the growth in federal arrests of foreign nationals. "While non-U.S. citizens make up 7% of the U.S. population (per the U.S. Census Bureau for 2017), they accounted for 15% of all federal arrests and 15% of prosecutions in U.S. district court for non-immigration crimes in 2018. Non-U.S. citizens accounted for 24% of all federal drug arrests and 25% of all federal property arrests, including 28% of all federal fraud arrests," the Justice Department said in a statement.

Critics point out that this framing of the report is misleading. Alex Nowrastehm a researcher for the libertarian Cato Institute said, "It’s a press release with the most dramatic statistics displayed without context, nuance, or explanation — not a serious data analysis. The federal government enforces immigration laws so it makes sense that most arrests are of non-citizens." The Trump administration has pushed forward several initiatives to combat immigrant crime, although statistics show immigrants — both documented and undocumented — are less likely to commit crime than the general population. In an analysis of American Community Survey information, Cato found that undocumented immigrants are about half as likely to be incarcerated than the general population, and documented immigrants about half as likely to be incarcerated as undocumented immigrants.

House Republicans Shoot Down Senate Border Bill

“House Republicans oppose the Senate immigration bill because it fails in every policy area needed to secure our border and would actually incentivize more illegal immigration,” the statement said. “Among its many flaws, the bill expands work authorizations for illegal aliens while failing to include critical asylum reforms. Even worse, its language allowing illegals to be ‘released from physical custody’ would effectively endorse the Biden ‘catch and release’ policy.”

“The so-called ‘shutdown’ authority in the bill is anything but, riddled with loopholes that grant far too much discretionary authority to Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas – who has proven he will exploit every measure possible, in defiance of the law, to keep the border open,” the statement continued. “The bill also fails to adequately stop the President’s abuse of parole authority and provides for taxpayer funds to fly and house illegal immigrants in hotels through the FEMA Shelter and Services Program.”
