I don't think Spencer Rattler will be worth a dime in the NFL. Besides, with CJ, the last thing the Texans need is a developmental player at QB. They need someone who can step in and steal a game like Case Keenum did, not a "developmental" rookie who isn't ready.

This draft should be used to address multiple weaknesses on the roster so the team can compete for a championship the next 2-3 years.

If you find a good value, it's never a bad idea to draft a QB. Having talent in the wings is critical in the Not For Long league. 49ers are a great recent example, drafted Purdy when they already had Trey Lance and Jimmy Garoppolo.

Texans have way too many holes in their roster to plug. They can't afford to waste a mid-round pick on a backup for their strongest position.
Besides, if CJ goes down for an extended period, their season is toast anyway.

The 49ers circumstances two years ago were very different from the Texans now. When they took Brock Purdy, their roster was probably (and still is) the most complete in the NFL. They also had been wanting to dump Jimmy G and were already having serious doubts about Trey Lance.

Blasphemous. Don't you dare compare that bust of a QB to CJ. The situation is not even close to comparison between them. No need to waste a pick on a mid round QB...or the last draft pick.

Texans have not drafted a WR in the first round since 2016

    Agreed.
Packers did this for years when they had Favre. Hasselbeck and brunell come to mind. They did it again with Matt Flynn behind Rodgers. Each time getting a few years of backup out of them then flipping them for a better pick than they initially used.

They used the Mr. Irrelevant pick… not some mid round pick to develop..

    23. Houston Texans (via CLE)

    Kool-Aid McKinstry, CB, Alabama

The Texans' 2023 draft class has provided them with a strong nucleus for the future, and though a trade in last year's draft cost them their own 2024 first-round pick, they have the Browns' first-rounder from the Deshaun Watson trade. With it, Houston can form a rock-star lineup at cornerback with McKinstry lining up opposite Derek Stingley Jr.

McKinstry was a consistent playmaker throughout his college career, snagging two interceptions at Alabama and deterring opposing quarterbacks from targeting his side of the field. He will have to answer questions about his true speed at the combine, but his three years of tape tell me he's a first-rounder.

    59. Houston Texans

    Leonard Taylor III, DT, Miami

Here, the Texans can land a replacement for defensive tackle Sheldon Rankins. The Hurricanes' defense asked Taylor to play primarily nose tackle in 2023, which limited his pass-rush opportunities, but the tape shows the quickness and instincts to be a productive gap player. Taylor has 27 career tackles for loss across 31 games, and his best football is still ahead of him.

Not sure about 2 defensive players back to back but if we sign a RB and WR then I’m with it

    Absolutely hate these 2 picks

Give me any number of CB's over Kool aid.

Drafting a classic underachiever like Taylor in rd 2 ?

Another post indicated we finished 31st in missed tackles last year. Here's defenders ranked by their tackling acumen...

    https://www.nfldraftbuzz.com/stats/TK/DT/1/2024
    https://www.nfldraftbuzz.com/stats/TK/LB/1/2024
    https://www.nfldraftbuzz.com/stats/TK/EDGE/1/2024
    https://www.nfldraftbuzz.com/stats/TK/CB/1/2024
    https://www.nfldraftbuzz.com/stats/TK/S/1/2024

I didn't realize this was tracked via metrics, but I certainly like being able to compare their overall ratings with their tackling abilitity.
