I am pro trading Jalen (as always, dependent on return), but this type of thinking scares me because It could be old Tilman thinking rearing its head again.
We literally just traded for Steven Adams who won't be playing this year... yet we want to "desperately" make the playoffs?
Those trades don't really help determine Green's value relative to a draft pick. Since both were important salary matching pieces for a better player (or supposed better player in the case of the DLo trade). Edit: The type of trades that would match in terms of draft comp would be something like the Cam Reddish trade.
Years away is fine for a bench guy, but we need that type guy on our starting lineup as bad as our 3PT shooting is. Fox went up and down for years. His 2nd year and his 7th year were the only decent years from behind the arc.
I think the chance of Jalen being traded really comes down to how much his camp will ask for im his extension. It's very likely they think very highly of Jalen and ask for. Wiggins or RJ type of contract. If that's the case, Jalen's out of here for sure
I wonder who out of these guards of the 21' class gets their first post rookie contract between Cade, JG, Suggs, Giddey, Cam
He has other good 3pt shooters on his team, so they don't need him to be better at the 3 to win. Last year, when they made the playoffs (The first time in years) they had a couple guys shooting 40% or more. I was saying if we want to be competitive next year we need better 3PT shooters in our starting core. Their team is ranked much higher than us in 3PT shooting. We aren't going to remove Fred, Dillon, Jabari or Sengun from our starters next year. Adams doesn't shoot the 3. Is that guy Cam? He has a lot to learn passing the ball, etc . I just don't think Jalen is going to be a great 3 PT shooter anytime soon, and he chunks a lot of bricks from behind the arc. I'd rather sign a guy now for next year. A veteran who has consistently done well from behind the arc.
K. Then trade Sengun for a big who stretches the floor as the dude does triple pump fakes at the three point line without a defender within a five mile radius of him. /S of course. We ain't trading Jalen Green to "ramp up shooting" for a season.
Who is talking trading to ramp up shooting for one season? I said we need better 3 PT shooters to be competitive next year. We can wait a few years, and hopefully draft or sign players who can make us competitive offensively. That's just not my preference. I just don't think we will be competitive as the 27th ranked 3PT shooting team. We might actually do better next year from behind the arc, if Jabari and Cam start taking more of the 3's. I'm not sure Dillon, Fred, or Jalen will get a lot better.
Who's going to create those threes? Is Cam breaking down defenses off the dribble and making those threes? Why do we need to draft new offensive talent when we can just have 21 year olds naturally develop? You think Green is set as what he will be as a shooter for the rest of his career?
Do you also think Green is set as a shooter that he is now for the rest of his career? Him being a 80+% ft shooter bodes well that he probably will improve his shooting over time.
