loved Steven Adams as a person, and a nice player when healthy. but personally i think Kelly Olynyk would be better fit and also realistic target to be the backup big. Excellent shooting/passing big, expiring contract, healthy and can help this season too. on the asset management perspective tho, Stone, again, did a poor job. remember when Stone traded KPJ with 2 second round picks for Dipo for a "tradable contract that can be used to trade again for a player who can help this season"? now he traded Dipo's contract with another 3 second picks for an injured player who's out for season?? media says the purpose is to extend Dipo's expiring contract into next season in hope to use in the potential "star player trade". if that's the case why don't you just waive KPJ and keep those FIVE second round picks and just sign a player in the summer to a contract similar to Jock's contract (non-guaranteed every year) so you have a salary to trade at 2025 deadline?? Stone is giving out second round picks like junk, 5 second picks to rid Garuba/TyTy and then failed to land Lopez. 5 second picks in the KPJ-to-Dipo-to-Adams situation. imo, you can easily keep those freaking TEN second round picks and still have the same roaster (or better). To give you an idea how valuable is Ten second round picks, the Suns acquired the star player they wanted (Bradley Beal) for 6 second picks (and 3 first pick swap which is almost useless given Suns/Wizards ranking). Steven Adams is a lovable person and nice backup big when healthy, but don't confused as if Stone made good trades.
I love this for us. Hopefully the injury isn't too bad. He doesn't have an IR history like Robert Willams so while he may offer less pure rim protection ability, his ability to stay on the floor is crucial for our team success next year. I'm calling it now. 2024-2025 we are the 3rd seed in the West. Let's gooooo

You make some good points worth considering. Here’s my take….he’s basically a very playable more athletic version of Boban and I think the Rockets are fine with that for a backup. He was not acquired to compete or start over Sengun.
Before his injury, Adams posted numbers similarly to Robert Williams and the big Kevon Looney.....better rebounder though not as good of FG% Both Kevon and Robert Williams are more mobile when healthy. We will see if the knee injury changed his movements...... Safe to say Boban never reached those heights.
There’s a 50% chance Adams doesn’t even play professionally after this surgery. Stone basically paid 5 second rounders for a trade exemption that could maybe play 50 games next year. Adams is not the same player he was 3 years ago.
Heard Rockets offered similar deal for Williams and didn’t get it, so Adams does the job as a respected big behind Sengun. Would rather get guys on the right side of 30, but he’ll do for a couple years.
Normal risk but good reward and probably would even get you a player if you just used his contract of 12.6 million. We just have to live with the slower trailer that is Adams who is not really a fast runner and probably does not have that deep of a bag offensively.
Agree on the asset management front, Stone really does not value picks like he should. Also Morey's greatest quality was doing trades with always the future in mind, Stone really should've paid better attention to that.
Not very excited about this deal. It doesn’t do anything for us this season, and I’m not really expecting Adams to be the primary backup center next season. I mean the Rockets are going to have to find a younger big man to backup Sengun. Right? I see Adams filling the Boban role next year. So, not real exciting.
Adam’s actually is a player. Boban, as much as I like the guy, is not. Adams is still young and is a smart player and great rebounder. I also am disappointed he won’t contribute this year, but if he comes back healthy, he’s a great guy behind and next to Sengun with certain lineups. Also, getting rid of picks when we have so many young guys that deserve PT makes sense. Just wasted money and draft picks when we can’t use them.
When was the last time we stashed anybody over seas? When was the last time anybody did that? The last time I can even remember the Rockets trying to do that was Clint Capela.
Not counting Harden trade, Stone has probably lost about 10-12 SRPs in trades, but traded for 7-8 SRPs picks (i.e., the vast majority of the SRPs Stone traded, Stone acquired). He also traded for Det and Washington FRPs in separate deals, and then consolidated them in a trade for a pick from OKC (Sengun). He also traded for a FRP and then traded to upgrade it for a swap that became the pick used for Whitmore. If all you judge Stone on are the Lopez and Porter debacles, sure Stone absolute sucks at draft pick asset management. Right now I'd guess the Rockets have lost Westbrook (no longer on contract that was traded), Ariza (no longer on contract that was traded), Tucker (no longer on contract that was traded), Gordon, Matthews, Bruno, Porter, $110K, rando expirings, and 3-4 net SRPs for Sengun, Whitmore, and Adams in trades involving draft picks not counting Brooklyn picks from Harden deal.
