Agree. Everybody has bad games, and everybody has good and bad streaks. One thing about Jabari is he consistently shoots well for an ave month. In the past 3 months he's never shot below 43%FG or 36% from behind the arc for the month. He's averaging 48.1%FG and 38.9% from behind the arc for the past 3 months and people scream like the sky is falling when he has a bad game. SMH
i'll give him the benefit of the doubt because coming off injury is never good but the 1 rebound is inexcusable. The man is near 7ft tall. He got 1 more board than DaDakota and the same amount as points last night. In his rookie year you could see him get in his head way too often. I'm not sure if it's because he has this reaaaaaaallly outward projection of confidence (#1 jersey selection) that it almost works against him.
Why Jabari is not used more in the midrange is such a mystery. His turnaround is almost automatic within 15 feet.
I said the same thing last night. A lot of times, he was wide open in the corner too and they never swung the ball to him. FVV and DB are taking the majority of the shots and Jabari can not get into a rhythm.
Jabari must be aggressive, yes he is a good shooter, but he cannot build his career solely on this because if you only play by shooting, this is not enough to become a star, especially for someone with Jabari's physique.
I'm a little skeptical. I think it's a good weapon to have in your toolbox for game theory reasons or just at the end of the shot clock when there's no time for anything else, but I don't think it's a shot we want him to build his game around. Even if he becomes truly elite at making them, the efficiency just isn't that good on midrange jumpers. First and foremost, I want him to become a 40+ percent three point shooter on high volume, and I want him to get stronger and better at using his length in the paint. The midrange shot should really be a distant third in usage.
I still don’t like this kid’s game. He’s just a stand still shooter and he’s too small to be able to guard other bigs. I think the Rockets should consider taking offers for him.
He needs to work on using ball screens, but he's already relocating well. On the size thing, that was always going to take time unless the Rockets used him as a 3. He has been inactive since he hurt his ankle so games lately have been mostly bad. I would not consider offers for him because when he develops more strength, he should be what the Rockets need. Right now, he just needs health and the Rockets need to understand that they will likely struggle in some matchups with him.
I agree with this. I do think he’s more of a 3 Ariza type player but his dribbling skills are limited to play there. If a borderline star becomes available, i would be willing to let him go if the deal is right. The Rockets can’t pay all of these guys. Alpi, Cam, Tari, Amen are all off limits in my eyes. We just need more vets around them. We need more size upfront and shooters on the wing.
He better learn to get rebounds/steals, then dribble the ball up court to initiate his own offense like Tari does. Teammates aren't passing you the ball & coaches aren't helping, so make your own offense.
Ime hasn't done enough IMO of designing an offense around our strengths and masking our weaknesses, we are NOT a good 3pt shooting team, get guys on the move.....cut/slash/attack...... We do too much standing at the 3pt line...playing into our weaknesses instead of our strengths. DD
Because Jabari is not a good ball handler or good facilitator, he is dependent on other players getting him the ball when he gets into a favorable position. I think that’s why Jabari has shown improvement this season, as we now have Fred to run the offense and to distribute the ball. Jabari will always be limited because of his lack of ball handling, but he should still continue to improve and can be a very good role player.
And his not so deep bag, he's got some nice fade aways and turn around jumpers but that is it..... I have yet to see him do multiple Dmo baby hooks.
he's basically a taller trevor ariza with the ability to post up, hit fade-aways, midrange. He's a 3 right now. But in 4 years, he'll be a 3/4. We have to wait it out man, 25 pounds more muscle one day. he's not untouchable, i agree. But only trade for a star.
And yet he is scoring more PPG than DMO ever did in a season (Bari's career average is higher than DMo's best single season PPG). Even if you segment DMo's best season into his best splits (ie: only look at the games he played as a starter in 2014-15) Smith's career average still tops it (1.2 minutes per game variance) Perhaps there is more to scoring than baby hooks? I don't think they call Smith's number very often. This seasons development focus for him seems to be defence, rebounding and spacing for others. His summer league domination shows he has something, but he'll need to lift his overall skill level this off-season to showcase it against NBA level defenders
The thing about running the heavy two man VV/Alpi and Alpi post feeds tend to have those weak side defenders drifting over clogging the lane for cuts/slash It seems they get a few each game, but why not ramp it up to three per quarter A lot of teams play the same style because All NBA/Stars operate in that type of ball dominant mode being they are the pick n roll and Iso heavy conductor while others stand around and wait
Dmo wasn't used more if you track his minutes per game.....it is not how much you score but how you do it in a consistent and dominating way..... And Dmo's run was one of the most mesmerizing ones....haha Dmo was never featured as one of the main guys ever......so it came as a surprise. He got Amen Thompson's rookie type of minutes and he delivered...... Also Jabari is not scoring much more than when Dmo did have a season where he scored 12 ppg on 10 Attempts per game.
