I watched some of his games and saw him just standing near the line if not #1 option. Non existenting blocker.
Trade Houston out: Robert Wood / Dameon Pierce / 2024 4th Rd Pick (#127) x Carolina Out: 2024 2 Rd Pick (#33) -------------------------------------------------------- 1.23 Devontez Walker (WR).........(Brian Thomas Jr was off the board) 2.33 Ladd McConkey (WR)........Gets separation. Safety Valve CJ Stroud will love. 2.59 Bucky Irving (RB)...............every bit as shifty as Singletary if not more (lose Singletary in FA) 3.86 Mehki Wingo (DL) [ LSU ] 4.123 Beau Brade (S) [ Maryland ] 4.127.......[ to Carolina ] 7.235 Drake Nugent (IOL) [ Michigan ].......has played Center 7.244 Marcus Harris (DL) [ Auburn ] 7.246 Justin Rogers (DL) [ Kentucky ]........more of a run stopper D-lineman _____________________ Free Agency Sign Josh Jacobs RB (S Barkley will be too expensive) Patrick Queen ILB Re-Sign Fairbairn Nelson Greenard Shultz Deiter Heck Nico......Tank.............O-line..............McConkey...........Tez .....................................CJ....Shultz *All 4 receivers can take the top off the defense. _____________________ Josh Jacobs and Bucky Irving (1,2 punch......both can catch out of the backfield)
Well it's just the bones of a deal that works on a trade machine. The Draft Simulator site wouldn't let me trade players......ended up trading all picks except 1,2 & 3rd round. I'm willing to give them meat on the bones in the form of future picks or non needed players. ________________________ Not sure you have seen the Panthers roster? Starters: Adam Thielen: ( 33 y/o )..........103 rec......1014 yds DJ Chark:....................................35 rec......525 yds Smith-Marsette: ..........................8 rec.......51 yds Back Ups Terrance Marshall.....................19 rec.......139 yds Mike Strachan.............................1 rec..........45 yds Cam Sims....................................0 rec..........0 yds Woods might bring culture. Show him as 31 y/o turning 32 y/o by next season. Robert Woods.............................40 rec.........426 yds But if they don't want him I'll take him back and sit him as a backup. Rumor: their new head coach might bring Mike Evans with him from Tampa. ___________ Dameon Pierce had a decent year one. Some would say Slowik and O-line injuries brought down his production this past year. Their top RB was: Chuba Hubbard: ................238 att..........902 yds.............3.8 avg Dameon Pierce (22/23):...220 att...........939 yds.............4.3 avg ---------------- So my mindset was, Texans devoted draft of CJ Stroud, Tank, Nico, Mitchie, offensive lineman, and trades or free agents such as Noah Brown , Robert Woods, Shultz........I was thinking the Texans head coach (DeMeco) would get mostly defensive draft picks to join Will Anderson this draft. C J would be learning the speed of the game and defensive coverages during 24/25 season. Well CJ Stroud is way more advanced. Texans need to get him some playmakers, now. Utilize his advanced game, now. Next year's draft can be mostly defense. Tank: takes the top off the defense (up to 65 to 70 yards deep from line of scrimmage....Strouds arm) Ladd McConkey: gets open, runs sharp routes can work the flats, cross over the middle, willing blocker, can take the top off the defense (alternate with Tank), run posts, corner routes, curls, screens in the flats, etc. Nico Collins: can run all routes. Can be a top 15 wide receiver in the league. Size and speed. Tez Walker: compliments Nico. Runs slants, posts, corner routes, screens in the flats, go-routes, 5 & outs if corners give him too much cushion. Teams have to run multiple Def-Backs. Nickel won't cover it.....all of these guys will exploit zone. Who gets double covered.....up to 70 yards from scrimmage.....are you kidding? Tampa two coverage would be like a zone. Add Shultz to working the intermediate range. Offense would be set for years of you give CJ Josh Jacobs and Bucky Irving. DeMeco can bring some of his 49ers in free agency next year. Patrick Queen joins his buddy Stringly Changes our defense dramatically.
Traded back in the first two rds and feel like I hit on most every need area. Some guys who fell probably shouldn't have but that can happen of draft day too I suppose. Nice draft. This morning ran the sim: Draft 23: Troy Franklin (WR) 59: Adies Isaac (Edge) 86: Bucky Irving (RB) 123: Ruke Orhorhoron (DL) 127: Will Reichard (K) top kicker listed going into the draft. Rather re-sign Fairbairn 235: Jarvis Brownlee (CB) has been lock down like Quinyon Mitchell @ Senior Bowl 244: William Mote (LS) 248: Myles Harden (CB) ----------------------- Troy Franklin was available this time. Still high on Tez Walker. Edge in Isaac but hoping the Texans re-sign Greenard. Would definitely have to pay up for production. Still tabbed Bucky Irving. Hoping Texans sign Josh Jacobs in FA (rushing champ in 2022). Sign Josh Jacobs Patrick Queen
There's been a fair amount of re-ranking lately and I suspect more after the Senior Bowl. Each draft now has different players dropping into the 23rd pick which has to affect the selections. 23 . 59. 86. 123. 127.
Tez may take a hit after the Pro Bowl. He showed off his route running and separation skills, but wasn't catching the passes at a high rate. He might not have been used to a QB throwing upfield as he short armed some and stopped short of catchable balls. This has not been an issue before, but it could be just the QB connection. My fascination with Legette has diminished as questions about running his plays when he's not a primary receiver. I can't watch film, so I cannot verify. Treat this like a rumor since I can't locate the source clip and even if I have the player correct, it could be a hit piece in an attempt to cause him to fall to them.
Yes, what I saw from Tez was: *Great speed: I've heard he was clocked at 23 miles per hour. Fastest receiver. *Great separation. The quarterbacks kept under throwing him. Defenders closed the gap. During the season his drops were in traffic. Not like Amari Cooper drops in his initial years. *Good blocking down field. ------------- I have no doubt his speed and separation will translate with the Texans. In the Browns playoff game, CJ Stroud over threw Nico Collins on a deep pass. CJ threw it from the Texans 30 to the 1 yard line. Practically 70 yards. If you ask me Nico slowed down. Saw the same throw from the end zone camera.....geez. Amazing seeing the ball coming out of nowhere and entering your zip code. The team averaged about 100 more yards on offense when Tank played. Tez would provide another deep threat of taking the top off the defense. It allows so much space for others underneath. Gives Tank a break as well. [ 2:20 mark on this video] Two players that have caught my eye though are: Quinyon Mitchell (CB) good height, track star speed, shut down corner and Roman Wilson (WR) good possession receiver I'm looking for. Option if McConkey is taken. Safety Valve option on every play for CJ Stroud My most updated want at pick #23 is Quinyon Mitchell
I didn't have a write up om Roman Wilson and got distracted by Johnny Wilson who did. I'm not an evaluator, just a game player.
I became enamored with a tall TE like Spann-Ford or Wiley who often slipped too the Houston fourth round picks and Red Zone High Point options. Just thinking of Schultz replacements if he's too expensive to keep. I'll have to keep an eye out for Mitchell.
I think they should trade back too. However, I think they need to target Sweat from UT and a WR in Rnd 2
Senior bowl had three days of drills. Receivers went up against DB's Quinyon Mitchell was dominant from what I'm hearing. On the receiver side, McConkey had a good first day but Roman Wilson was the three day top receiver. From what I heard, Quinyon Mitchell was told on his final coverage play, "who do you want to cover." He selected Roman Wilson. Evaluators liked that he chose the toughest cover of the 3 day drills. Roman beat Mitchell on a 5 (yd) and out along the sideline. Roman used body contact which threw off the balance of both Mitchell and Roman.....but Roman made a spectacular one handed catch while falling backwards. If I'm not mistaken, that was the one catch when Mitchell covered in the 3 days of practice. Something like 45 (unsuccessful) to 1 (catch). It's said that Jim Harbaugh and Michigan were running predominantly.....but Roman Wilson is a good receiver who runs good routes and is thought to be a good hands possession receiver. ------------------ Since the receiving corps is deep in this draft, didn't think I would find a better corner than Nelsen in this draft. I've come around to Drafting Mitchell at #23. Shut down corners of Stingly/Mitchell maybe re-sign Nelsen as slot corner or nickel back. Give me Patrick Queen, lock down corners (Stingly/Mitchell), and our defensive line won't lock so bad. Get us by for another season. Could the Texans afford: Patrick Queen ($18.5M) Fairbairn (Reichard from Alabama kicked a 57 yarder in the Senior Bowl) Deiter Weeks (re-signed, no need to waste a draft pick) Josh Jacobs ($10.6M) Nelsen ($10.2M) Greenard ($13.4M) *$$$ noted by spotrac (Market Value) Draft tight end
