Well, he should’ve taken Jalen’s side as he was pleading with him to use the challenge. If the ipad team didn’t see it was a clear jump ball….I’m not kidding, THEY NEED TO BE FIRED!!! It was a costly game for the Rockets in many ways and you can’t have ineptitude of that extreme level when the outcome of the game is hinging on making the right call.
Quick glance, I may have miscounted… Through January 21, 9-15 on challenges (9 successful, 15 unsuccessful) https://ak-static.cms.nba.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/4/2024/01/Coachs-Challenge-By-Day-1-21-24.pdf 2020-21: 19-13 (More successful challenges than wins!) https://ak-static.cms.nba.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/4/2021/05/Coachs-Challenge-reviews-1.pdf 19-20: 17-17 (MDA) https://ak-static.cms.nba.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/4/2020/03/CCD-19-20-Regular-Season.pdf Now that we found the one thing he’s good at, should we hire Silas back solely as “Challenge Coordinator”?
We're not trying to win a championship yet, only on phase 2..... Challenge Silas doesn't get unlocked until phase 3 or 4 of the rebuild...
Went to Brooklyn Nets fan site for their perspective and they are openly mocking the Rockets as they were sure we’d get the last shot to win the game only to not challenge the call at all. They couldn’t believe we let Thomas just walk up and take the two freebies with 5 seconds left. One of them was posting….shoot the ball quickly before they figure out they have a challenge.
I wonder what it would take for them to really embrace the tank, they strike me as a team that is stubbornly at the 10th place.
I don't care about the consequences if you lose, he HAD to make that challenge and he didn't. That was a mistake. He was wrong. I still love the guy, but he ****ed that all up.
There were only 5 seconds left, in a jump ball the ball can go anywhere and you could be distanced and unable to foul if the opponent gets the ball. If I recall correctly, the strategy still gave us an opportunity to tie the game as his next move was to have a FT missed intentionally, Sengun got the rebound and had a chance to tie it up with FTs. He still put us in a position to win the game, Sengun just missed the FT. I think he made the right move not challening, its not like it was a jump ball between our center and their guard, i think it was a 50/50 shot at even winning it, and then you dont control where the ball ends up.
I agree with Hank McDowell that we HAD to make that call. Jalen would have likely won the tip and if not we could foul asap. We still would have had our timeout even if we lost the tip (since the call would have been overturned) so IT MAKES NO SENSE to put out the red carpet and say take two freebies for a 3 point lead with 5 seconds remaining. Win the tip, call the timeout and have 4-5 seconds to win the game with a two instead of having to miss a free throw and pray that FVV gets a rebound because nobody else out there was clutch enough to hit two pressure free throws with no time left just to tie the game. Huge mistake by Udoka that literally cost us a great chance at a win in regulation. He cost us the Blazers game by his boneheaded non-foul with a 3 point lead and less than two seconds left. Funny how Brooklyn said no way we’re letting FVV shoot for a tie being up three points. Hopefully Udoka learns from his mistakes as he preaches for his players to do. I think he fouls next time in that situation and hopefully works on improving and using his challenges.
He cost us a chance at a better pick since we own Brooklyn’s pick. Wish he would’ve given us the opportunity to win it in regulation.
Jump balls are never a sure thing--always depends on how the ref throws it up, whether the other guy gets away with jumping early, how well your player tips the ball to a teammate. It takes a lot of time off the clock even if you win it, quickly gain possession, and call a timeout, and none of those are sure things. So maybe if everything goes how you want, you have 2.5 or 3 seconds to get a shot off to win the game. If things go poorly, the game is just over immediately. I can totally understand not challenging there.
What the hell was that challenge? He had like 2-3 other situations which would be much better to use his challenge but he challenged that? Everyone including their granny saw it would NEVER be overturned.
