Trump invoked 212f for the travel ban on select countries from January 2017-2021 He didn't apply it to close the Southern Border, despite claiming a security crisis with threats to national security interests that constituted a national emergency in April 2019. You might want to delve into the details to understand why. Here is a hint from the Trump's admin: "THE BROKEN SYSTEM DRIVING THIS CRISIS: Congress must act immediately to fix the broken immigration system and address the root causes of the crisis at our border." And just so you know, my lesson is on the house – consider it a gift.
LOL... you fell for this fake news? Figures... the reasons these lies get posted is there are ingrates like basso that will repost them on social media.
Maybe instead of wasting tax-payer dollars spending at the Texas border (at least the one mile the TX Guard is patrolling) for right-wing media opportunities to spew their idiocy, maga politicians should invest that time on taking a remedial class on U.S. History and The Constitution? Readers added context Texas was not a state at the time of the signing of the constitution. It became a state of the USA in 1845. thestoryoftexas.com/discover/texas… Do you find this helpful?
Three years ago the border was largely shut down under COVID emergency rules. The Biden Administration tried to extend those but the USSC said they had to end.
This reminds me of another 'convoy' of trucks in 2022, one that lasted for days and covered miles. Abbott decided to essentially halt commercial truckers for a special inspection by Texas DPS because, according to Abbott, the border was in a crisis. He relented within less than 2 weeks after a massive backlash from businesses. So much for it being a crisis. Now, imagine shutting down the entire southern border, as some here have unwittingly suggested. I wonder how quickly Republicans would walk away from deeming it a crisis and backtrack after impacting 55% of fresh produce and other trades. ps. As for 'fell for this fake news', I find it funny and sad—I constantly teach my kids about the incentives of social media and posters (ex 'patriot' as your alias is a good red flag) so they can make informed decisions on what to trust and what to recheck. Many of today's adults are sadly less social media-savvy compared to my teens in this respect.
The problem is again just the flood of stuff coming through social media combined with both the tendency to self select stories that fit our own preconceived bias plus algorithms that enforce though.
I doubt you will answer and will deflect, but I'll ask anyway: Why did Trump not use it? Why did Congressional Republicans propose "A"?
He can't. In his world, there are always the simplest solutions to the most complex problems. Like a wall. Now, he thinks there is a switch (perhaps on the side of "the wall") the President can flip to stop all illegal immigration. That's why any more complex solution like the ones the senate and President are promoting won't get the support of simple-minded magas.
fox news channeling the maga strategy to oppose the senate bipartisan proposal... "why give Biden an election year win?". At least this republican senator is offended by the question...
He claims Y exists, and Biden can use it. However, he can’t answer why Trump didn’t use it or why Congressional Republicans are currently proposing it. I’m pretty sure he knows he’s just BS-ing. There’s a possibility he’s not, and if so, best to him and his family. I will ignore him for now as he’s either a BS troll or mentally not all there.
