uhhh try making some sense then. if you're taking it as arguing that's on you "Tari was a terrible idea" doesn't make any sense whatsoever
Sometimes it’s just about getting the right guys on the bus. Sometimes addition by subtraction is real. These stats about how the team performs when he is NOT playing relative to when he IS playing are pretty telling in that regard. Also keep in mind, you’re trying to build a culture with a very young team and a first year coach, and you can’t keep rewarding this. With all due respect, getting rid of him would not be just getting rid of him just to get rid of him, imo. Benching him isn’t gonna make his value improve…and playing him isn’t helping at all for a team trying to knock on the door of its first playoff appearance since the disappearance of one James Harden. I don’t see how keeping him around helps much of anything at this point. bottom line, I don’t believe selling now is selling low…I think that was the point of that whole string of tweets, and a point the “tweeter” actually made.
More than anything on offense, they need someone else to space the floor on the starting unit. As we all know, Jalen is supposed to do that, but... Cam is the best choice if he's ready.
I don't care if Cam or Tari starts, but Tari needs to play 30+ minutes when healthy. The Jalen Green experiment is over. It has been a failure.
That might be a more damaging tweet than the Harden mixtape . talk about an absolute hold the vampire out in the daylight moment. Our FO has all this info too. They know and opposing GMs know too.
IMO if you arrive at this conclusion, then it’s time for him to go. I agree he needs to hit the bench…and I can’t remotely pretend that him hitting the bench is gonna increase his value. Which is why I can’t hear the whole, “I don’t wanna sell low right now” stuff because I just don’t see how his value gets much higher unless this team is still trying to lose.
I think we should give Tari as much of a chance to improve his shooting as we gave green. He's already way better technically lol
It’s nice to have the stats to back it up but this has been obvious to everyone watching the game besides those who simply refuse to take their homer shades off
This. I don’t understand starting him or bringing him off the bench if you’re trying to win. He’s an awful player. No need to resign him. No need to try to make him a sixth man. He just needs to go. He’s a huge bust and unfortunately, at this point you’re not going to get close to recouping #2 pick value.
The frustrating part of all this for me is that I’m insanely optimistic and I sincerely love the Houston Rockets. I sincerely wanted to believe. But I just don’t think Jalen is wired for this. I think he’s an incredible athlete, but his wiring isn’t around the kind of drive / motivation / dog that you want from a guy you spend a #2 pick on. I’m big on creating a winning culture where everyone sells the **** out for each other and for the team…I just don’t think Jalen is that guy, and I don’t expect he’s going to become a different person anytime soon. For his sake, I sincerely hope I’m wrong because otherwise I like the guy. But I’d prefer he not be a Houston Rocket please and thank you and sorry.
I can not imagine giving him another contract. Seriously. I don’t care about the price…it’s not about that to me, because I don’t have to pay his contract. I want the right guys on the bus. Jalen needs to get off. I feel like this was almost a certainty the minute we hired Udoka.
It isn't a matter of giving Tari "a chance" to improve his shooting. Volume shooting just isn't what he provides on offense. His best role for the Rockets is energy and intensity off the bench and sometimes closing, depending on the situation. He can work on his shot over the summer. If/when the Rockets replace JG with legit SG, a floor spacer and someone who can beat a man off the dribble and successfully finish at the rim, the offense will go next level. Just imagine what that would do for Sengun.
These aggregate stats are poor in picking up intangibles that Dillon brings: physicality, intimidation, disrupting the rhythm of the star player he usually guards… OTOH, he’s being heavily penalized by the metrics - fair or unfair - for his high foul rate and high TO%.
I’ve been b****ing here constantly about not boxing out, but even I am shocked at the numbers. 5 box-outs in two years??
That, and he has no responsibility on defense with Silas. Just blame everything on Alperen and give no effort chasing over screens. For a skinny, weak guy whose one advantage is speed, spacing is everything. He’d probably look a hell of a lot better playing D’Antoni ball with a stretch 5.
He doesnt have to be a volume shooter. Jalen volume shooting is the issue. Im not sure why youre assuming we need a volume shooter with Sengun we just need people to knock down open shots.
So we're treating it as news that we play better when the guy who's struggling plays less? I don't understand how that's different than he's taking stupid shots, which has been the problem all along. Jalen is a great fit for the bench at the moment. Easier competition, faster pace, we're more desperate for help there. He's still a 22 year old on a team controlled contract and he becomes a restricted free agent in 1.5 years. I would be shocked if we went the whole season without he or Udoka being able to improve him 1% even coming off the bench. Any good thing he's done in the NBA thus far has pretty much resembled what a flawed 6th man type scorer might bring you. It's obviously worth trying out. Cam is a better fit for the starting unit than most trade targets mentioned too. He's a shooter and can attack closeouts, there's plenty of that available with the starters. I think we should try this before coughing up any capital or dumping a player we spent a whole NBA season tanking for - especially when the coach seems to believe in him. Rockets are putting out statements to the media specifically saying they're not giving up and committed to work on Jalen's game.
Wow, those tweets (or are the X's now?) that @YOLO posted are truly damning. Of course it is easy to see watching the games. Jalen is the biggest bust in Rocket's history given his draft position. I believe he will either be traded or moved to the back of the bench next to Boban once the trade deadline is past. As I have stated in other threads and @MadMax said in this one, addition by subtraction is a real thing. Getting Jalen out of the starting lineup any way possible makes us a better team. There is zero chance we will ever recoup the value of the #2 we wasted on Jalen. The only thing that helps that sting is that we stole Alpi, by far that drafts best player, at #16.
