    They have them in Texas
Nobody get car jacked or robbed at any of their locations

the Austin people who think they have crime are fat people who think someone stealing their parking spot is the sign of the neighborhood going down

‘Cartoon of a city’: Oakland wine bar burglarized. Then owner gets the bill

It only took minutes for two men in ski masks to break through the door of a famed wine bar in Oakland over the weekend, ransacking the restaurant and taking money before they fled the scene.

But the owner and chef of Snail Bar, one of the Bay Area’s most popular restaurants, said he was most shocked by the way police — and the city — responded afterward.

Andres Giraldo Florez said his business sustained around $6,400 in losses, both from the money stolen and the damages to the building from the break-in early Saturday morning.

The restaurant’s surveillance footage captured video of two male suspects breaking the bar’s front door, the door to its back room, and stealing a safe with more than $2,000 in cash.

Oakland police officials confirmed the details of the burglary, and said they “boarded-up” the building after they were unable to make contact with the owner. But Florez, who said he arrived around 4:30 a.m. — not long after the police left — said their so-called efforts to secure the building were shoddy.

“OPD requested a board-up after they were unable to make contact with the owner,” an Oakland police spokesperson said. “The board-up was necessary to prevent further victimization.”

Florez said the police left a piece of wood in front of the shattered door, secured only with duct tape. And on it was a note that informed him he would be receiving an invoice in the coming days for “their services.”

Oakland police said the notice was from the city’s Department of Public Works. Sean Maher, a spokesperson for the city of Oakland, said when property managers cannot be immediately reached in the aftermath of a break-in or fire, emergency responders may make a decision to call on the public works department to provide a board up.

Invoicing for this service is performed consistent with the city’s master fee schedule, and is routinely covered by the property insurance, Maher said.

“I literally was left a bill for getting robbed,” said Florez, who closed down his other wine bar, Slug Bar, in August — not long after his car, a 1971 Mustang, was set on fire in front of the restaurant in downtown Oakland.

Such invoices, he had heard, can range from $600-$1,500. Florez said he has called the contact number on the invoice numerous times. But as of Wednesday, he had yet to get a response.

“My door wasn’t even secured,” he said. “I didn’t give them any permission to do the job that they did. This is a cartoon of a city.”

Florez’s woes coincided with a decision by In-N-Out Burger to close its only Oakland restaurant after it became a magnet for break-ins, property damage, theft and armed robberies.

Since 2019, police recorded more than 1,335 incidents in the vicinity of the burger joint, which included 1,174 car break-ins — more than any other place in the city.

Despite loving Oakland and believing in the city in spite of its challenges Florez said he was flummoxed by the escalating state of crime across town, where burglaries, break-ins and armed robberies have become rote realities rather than unusual events.

“We have no public safety,” he said. “This is clearly organized crime and nobody is catching it. … It’s like ‘Grand Theft Auto.’ It wasn’t like this five years ago.”

Police officials have said the department is not adequately staffed to address the crime in the area, particularly given the rise in violent crime and the call volume of about 1.2 million calls for service a year.

Violent crime in the city last year increased 21% over 2022. Vehicle break-ins increased 23% and vehicle thefts increased 45%, according to police department data.

San Francisco has a terrible problem with homelessness, as does Los Angeles.

Some of the issue is that local laws have made it nearly impossible for affordable housing to be built.

However the larger reason is that California and especially San Francisco and Los Angeles are extremely attractive places for the homeless. The police do not force the homeless out of town like they do in most of the country, even in places like Chicago. Also there are more resources for the homeless in San Francisco and Los Angeles than anywhere else in the USA.

Also - those claiming break in’s and smaller violent crimes and the homeless are bad everywhere don’t realize how bad it is in LA and San Fran Bay Area. They have FAR more crime of this sort. There are going to eventually be election consequences. This won’t solve the homeless issue but it will push them to another city and state.

    Defund the police !

funny how that left wing movement was cool until the freaking NAACP in 2023 said NO MORE !!!
    https://wpde.com/news/nation-world/...afety-abolish-george-floyd-protests-blm-riots
Black people are disproportionately affected by crime in Oakland, and other minorities such as Asian Americans and women feel as though they are being pushed out of the city, according to the letter. Children and students also feel the affects of crime, which has taken away education and employment opportunities, the NAACP contends.

to this day Oakland suffers from over 500 police shortage staffing and a broken 911 system - the criminals know the system is broken
