Times of Israel did a poll last week where 64% of Israelis were against any 2 state solution. Yes the newest finding is a big deal cuz it shows they trust Biden
It's a politically driven conflict. They could make peace tomorrow if it were not for the politics of it.
Do you ever post anything productive anymore? Like literally anything ? Do you ever have solutions to anything other than propoganda?
Rifts within Israel resurface as war in Gaza drags on. Some want elections now TEL AVIV, Israel (AP) — Ever since Israel was attacked on Oct. 7, a main Israeli highway has been flanked by billboards preaching national unity and a ubiquitous wartime slogan: “Together we will win.” But lately those billboards have been replaced with a starkly different message: a call for immediate elections. The mood of the Israeli public is shifting after more than 100 days of war in Gaza – and the catalyst is a rift over the polarizing leadership of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. .. Gadi Eisenkot, a member of the influential War Cabinet and a former military chief whose son and nephew were killed in the war, told the prominent Israeli news show “Uvda” that only a negotiated deal could free the remaining hostages. That was a direct challenge to Netanyahu’s claim that sustained military force is the best way. Eisenkot also called for elections to be held soon to restore the public’s trust. Netanyahu’s critics say Hamas’ attack and Israel’s failure to foresee or promptly contain it was a direct result of the divisions sowed by Netanyahu and his government. Polls show his coalition would not be reelected if elections were held today. For the growing chorus of voices who oppose the government, patience is wearing thin. A protest calling for elections last week drew thousands in Tel Aviv, the biggest anti-government rally since the war began. A group of 170 former commanders and other senior defense officials signed a letter earlier this month calling for elections now.
This is also just dehumanization. The concept that because people have the same religion, they are the same people. Again it's reduction of humanity to singular traits and motivations. How much does an American Christian have in common with an Ugandan Christian? They have totally different experiences and cultures and let's not forget.... Displacing people from homes is always wrong. It isn't magically okay just because you displaced them to somewhere where they share the same religion. They still lost their home.
This is exactly what I mean. The Muslim IDF soldiers l'family is completely different in terms of culture, desires than a Palestinian in Gaza or the West Bank that isn't an Israeli citizen. Muslims aren't hive minds purely driven to install a Islamic caliphate. Most Muslims just want their Maslow hierarchy of needs met.
Two groups of people want the same land. Both groups think they have a historical right to the land. Both groups are, at least in part, religiously driven. How do you resolve this?
In terms of deserving to live in the land, one group is religiously driven. The other group, it's more that religion is a coping mechanism for the nihilism they pick up from their living conditions. One group uses "archeological" evidence and religious text of hundreds of years ago. The other group can just point to their great grandparents living there. Most Israeli citizens are former Western Jews. Now that doesn't mean that Jews who lived in Europe had reasonable desire to escape Europe and form a home that made them feel safe because European and Russian anti-semtisim in the 19th and early 20th century is peak anti-semtisim. Remember one group has upper middle class lawyers who live in Long Island become settlers in the West Bank displacing Palestinians in the process. What reasoning would someone like that have to move to dat other than religion?
Pardon me for stepping in a post directed towards another poster but this is the first I’ve heard of this plan. It’s interesting but even though I feel Netanyahu is an impediment to peace, in addition to being corrupt, I would be very hesitant of a plan that has the US forcing him out. That really should be up to the people of Israel to force him out.
I saw something briefly on my news feed that Israel was offering Hamas a two month ceasefire in return for all the remaining hostages. I was tied up with other stuff so didn’t read the article but if I can find something about it will post it.
Israel has existed for more than 70 years. Many Israelis have lived there all their lives. They aren’t going anywhere and Hamas and combined Arab armies have failed to dislodge them. Neither group is going anywhere.
No one here is saying anything about displacing Israelis who are born and raised in Israel. Right now no matter how much people refuse to listen the last official agenda claims of Hamas with the 2017 charter, it still says that their problem isn't with the Jews but Zionists and explicitly stated that all humans including Jews deserve equal rights. So their official claim is to not displace Jews but rather change who is on power. Again this is the same exact claims of the Israeli right wing government. "we want to control all of Israel from the river to the sea but will promise you that we will give everyone equal rights to everyone". It's literally the same CLAIMED agenda. I don't trust Hamas and I don't trust the right wing government of Israel but we have to be honest and state that their claimed agendas are the same: a one state solution where hypothetically everyone has equal rights.
Sure I have no doubt that Hamas has some language that paints them as being high minded. There actions though speak otherwise. The problem is that neither side trust the other side to agree to put them in political control. My main point though is neither side are going anywhere or should be expected to go anywhere.
Hamas rejected the 2M ceasefire for all hostages offer from Israel. They want a permanent ceasefire, the withdrawal of IDF from Gaza, and the release of Palestinian prisoners. I don't know if there is any compromise between those two offers yet. There is a lot of pressure on Netanyahu to secure the release of all hostages. Eisenkot is saying that Netanyahu is not being truthful about the progress of the war, and the goal of complete victory over Hamas is not realistic. Also, it's not possible to secure the release of hostages through military might. He wants an election to elect new leadership to restore trust. https://www.timesofisrael.com/in-ch...talk-of-absolute-defeat-of-hamas-a-tall-tale/
Actually I think you are wrong here. Very good chance Palestinians might be forced into to the Sinai Peninsula within the next few years to a decade. Very decent chance for it.
